Why don't you seek out the empowerment and earnestly adopt the practice?

Thank you for sharing this. I didn't have the merit to receive teachings from Khenpo Kathar, but I understand he was an extraordinary being.

I'm so sorry you have had to endure this. My heart goes out to you.Knotty Veneer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 6:55 pm Oh climb-up, I can truly relate to what happened to you. In 2021 I lost my Dad (a fall), my Mom (COVID), and my wife (cancer) all within 9 months.

Re: COVID, grief and impermanence
Yes, it was COVID. Myself and two of my kids were positive and she tested positive Wednesday morning. Even until just a little while before we called the ambulance I thought she was having a hard time, but maybe doing a little better than I had in the first night. I’ve been told, through a family m...

Re: COVID, grief and impermanence
Wow. That's incredibly hard and such a powerful display of impermanence. My heart goes out to you - I'm so glad you were able to be there and dedicate your practice to her. I'm 43 and can't imagine the same scenario playing out in my household. Was it COVID related? How did it escalate so quickly? W...

I can do my core commitments in an hour of formal sitting, sometimes broken up in to two :30's. This is sitting practice. More 'informal' practices I strive to integrate as much as possible in daily routine.

There's so much about Vajrayana that we "Westerners" have no or little idea about. I feel so grateful that we have representatives like yourself who have carried these traditions to the West. My personal aspiration is that these teachings will continue to flourish in this world despite th...

Can someone explain to me the benefits of Phowa?
Specifically in the Drikung Kagyu lineage? I understand the appeal and importance of utilizing this technique while one is dying, or to assist others who are dying. What are the benefits of doing as a daily practice? Could one theoretically 'accidentally' leave this life early if their practice was ...

Re: When we say "enlightenment in one lifetime"...
But seriously, how many people here are willing to say you think you have a reasonable chance of becoming a Buddha before you die? And how does that drop off after 5, 10, 20, or 40 years of practice? I certainly don't think I will acheive Buddhahood in this life. At the time of death I will certain...

Re: Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche online reading transmission of the 17 Dzogchen Tantras
My observation is that new people listening to any Dharma teaching universally report a sense of dullness while the teaching is happening, which lifts the minute the teaching concludes. I also experienced this in the beginning. Astute observation and certainly a feeling I am very experienced with. ...

There were no prerequisite trainings before attending a highest yoga tantra retreat? This seems strange to me.

Eh, I've been trained to recite 'happiness and the causes of happiness' and be free of 'suffering and the causes of suffering'
In this case the wish is for a true, lasting happiness - not the transitory states of satisfaction that are samsara.

I am currently taking a Mahamudra course (Gelug) and we are using the text 'Mind Seeing Mind' by Robert Jackson which is based on the works of Panchen Lobsang Chokyi Gyaltsen.

Re: Refuge as a pre-requisite for lung
The vast majority of practices you do (in the Tibetan traditions at least) start with some form of refuge. So I’m not sure how one could actually practice in this tradition without saying the words. Though technically speaking, I received lungs for a couple of practices before I had said the refuge...

Sure, and seizure disorders are a real possibility in OCD. Many people with epilepsy have associated symptoms of OCD. There are a vast range of seizures in severity. People have mini seizures they do not even recognize. We really do not know very much about the brain. But one thing I do know, havin...

Re: How to practice quietly with bell?
A couple decades ago, I was staying with a Lama in a room at his retreat house and woke up to do Dangwai Naljor--"Yoga of Arising" which normally involves bell and damaru, first thing when you wake up. I thought "Oh, I will not do the music as I do not want to wake the lama" ---...

My Buddhist Tattoos are a negative source of karma(?)
Quick background: I was raised in a family that wasn't religious. In high school I gravitated towards Buddhism after studying the world's religions. After college I formalized my practice and connected with an actual lineage. In my 20's I got a lot of tattoos - all buddhist inspired. My motivation w...
