Re: Sangharakshita, Triratna, and should I leave

As someone who experienced bullying by an order member, trust your gut. Definitely. There is both light and dark within Triratna. The teaching aspects are actually very good. I’m not sure I’d agree the teaching is good. They have a history of mixing plenty of non-dharma into dharma, such as Nietzsc...

A good test is that they practice what they preach, and are consistently kind to others.

Jokingfish wrote: Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:55 pm Can you say in few words, if possible, what practices exactly are different between Hinduism and Buddhism (i mentioned in previous posts their similarities, why aren't these similarities enough)?
Practices per se aren’t the problem, it’s the lack of the correct view, dependent origination.

“Present Fresh Wakefulness” by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche is fantastic.

I also like “Dzogchen Nonmeditation” by Keith Dowman.

Disagreeing with the guru

What is the recommended course of action when there is a disagreement with the guru (on non-dharma topics)? As an example some lamas might not believe in evolution and prefer the traditional Buddhist view of how sentient beings appear in the world. My assumption is that we are to just disagree polit...

Thank you so much, I'll look up right away. Have you been there or know them? Never been there, unfortunately. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche is my root guru and I have also met many of his senior students like Erik Pema Kunzang, Thomas Doctor, and Heidi Koppl etc. who are all very impressive yogis, transla...

Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche’s Ka-nying Shedrub Ling in Kathmandu sounds ideal for you. They have a shedra that’s very reputable and set up for non-Tibetans. He also does a lot of teaching online.

Re: Sangharakshita, Triratna, and should I leave

FWBO was the first Buddhist related group I was ever involved in about 20 years ago. The people in the group were good people, but I'm afraid that a lot of the teachings were twisted/contaminated/made up and Shantarakshita is an ethical embarassment. Both of these fundamentally cripple that organisa...

Re: Rainbow body questions

I sympathise. The lack of regular, easy access to a teacher, especially to ask questions regarding meditation experiences can be a real impediment, especially in a Dzogchen context. It has definitely hampered my practice. So, has Dzogchen always been elitist? Only accessible by a small minority? And...
