What are you looking for?

Postby Greg » Wed May 02, 2012 5:25 pm

Are there out of print books, obscure journal articles, or non-proquest dissertations you have been trying to get your hands on?

Well, I may be able to help with out of print books, obscure journal articles, or non-proquest dissertations (ie stuff that is almost impossible to get through normal channels at a fair price), but also I'm just curious as to what people are having trouble getting a hold of.

I have not yet managed to get hold of the following titles from down under:

Schopen, G. The Bhaisajyaguru-Sutra and the Buddhism of Gilgit.
Coghlan, I. The translation and introduction to the first two chapters of the mDzod 'Grel mNgon pa'i rGyan by mChim 'Jam pa'i dbYangs.

Any help with these would be much appreciated.

Easily accommodated. Check your PMs.

Less easily accommodated. Will have to get back to you on this one.

I've never been able to get a copy of this dissertation:

Oldmeadow, Peter R. A study of the wisdom chapter (Prajñāpāramitā pariccheda) of the Bodhicaryāvatārapañjikā of Prajñākaramati. Thesis (Ph.D.)--Australian National University, 1994.

Hi Greg,

I had no luck hunting this down. Even NYU's Interlibrary loan came up empty.

Title: Affliction and awakening : Yogacara buddhism in T'ang China.
Author: Sponberg, Alan.
If you believe certain words, you believe their hidden arguments. When you believe something is right or wrong, true of false, you believe the assumptions in the words which express the arguments. Such assumptions are often full of holes, but remain most precious to the convinced.

The ANU ones are a bitch - microfiche. I'm not sure what I'll be able to come through with, but I'll give it a shot where I can. I thought it would be good to have a thread like this, in case anyone else can deliver.

This is a part of Hoornaert's translation of the Yogācāra Chapter of the MHK & TJ, is it not? I don't know about this section of Hoornaert's translation, but here's a PDF of Eckel's translation of the entire chapter & commentary: Chapter 5: Analysis of Reality According to the Yogācāras.

You don't happen to know the school do you? I'm guessing UNC Greensboro if Duckworth was the supervisor, as indicated here: http://ryi-student-blog.blogspot.com/20 ... duate.html

But I don't even see a proquest listing for it at all

Dear Greg,
No, unfortunately, I don't know where he did his MA. I've tried proquest too but without success. I was told this work was really great and I hope to read it some day!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
