I don't think so, it's a legitimate ad hom, if I am not mistaken.

You are correct, the literal latin is "to the person", which can be adverse, perverse or just doggerel mush.
So may the glorious radiance from the Arya Sangha & Buddhas soon be outshone by the auras of all we spinning Dharma Chakra-ites!
