1300 year Thrangu Monastery destroyed in Tibet earthquake

Post by phantom59 »

Following the earthquake on the 14th of April 2010 in Kham, East Tibet, an international response is getting underway. Reports now indicate that nearly 1000 people have died in the disaster and many public buildings, schools and houses have collapsed. There are a lot of people still missing.

Thrangu Rinpoche’s Lamas and centres around the world have been mobilised to provide assistance. Over the days to come Lamas will head to the site of Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche’s seat in Tibet, Thrangu Tashi Choling, which has been very severely affected, with most buildings destroyed. The sprawling monastery is home to several hundred monks, lay people and children. Many inhabitants of the monastery, people who worked tirelessly for the benefit of others, have sadly lost their lives, and many more have been injured. Survivors are in urgent need of every kind of assistance.

Thrangu Rinpoche has worked hard to restore the monastery and provide a centre for the benefit of local people and the wider population. The terrible news comes at a time when immense efforts were being made to develop the monastery, to provide accommodation and to create a beneficial environment for all living beings.
