So, why do I label a car as car? Instead of a lion. I see it as a machine not a giant animal. Wouldn't that mean there is something from the car's own side to make it a car?
perhaps we can for the moment agree that there is something on the side of the object--but what is that thing? is it "lion" or "car" that is coming from the side of the object?
if car exuded out of any one of the particles or the collection of them then when you had that particle or that collection you would necessarily have "car"... but it doesnt work like that at all.
usually people will say, ok, its not the external object itself which makes it a car, but rather, its my memory of it as a car that makes it a car.
in which case it must be pointed out, that there is nothing about each individual color and shape in the memory, nor a collection of colors and shapes in the memory which makes it a memory of a car
nevertheless, you can drive in cars and have memories of them....we are not invalidating cars, just dismissing mistaken notions of how they exist, and understanding how it is that they do exist (which, unfortunately, the Buddha claimed is something necessary to know if you desire to be highly rational [and beyond suffering])
