Huseng's translation published: Buddhist Tales for the Soul

Post by Huseng »

Hi folks,

Last year I finished translating a collection of short stores for a certain Japanese monk living in India, Ven. Nakamura Gyomyo, and it was recently published.

Image

It is available as a Kindle edition as well on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006RFIHOS/ref=tsm_1_fb_lk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And as far as I know print editions are only available from the publisher for now:

http://www.sterlingpublishers.com/booki ... 8120768413" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is just a collection of short stories with mostly Buddhist themes. Very light reading aimed at teenagers, though anyone could appreciate them. Don't jump on me for the word "soul" in the title ... it isn't a dharma text. :smile:

The illustrations are also well done and suitable for the content.

Unfortunately, the editors in India butchered the manuscript and despite having pointed out their blunders, they didn't fix it. The put commas in weird places and omitted necessary prepositions. It isn't unreadable, but still I notice it.

The preview function in Amazon gives the first story.

Hi H

Glad to hear that and of your continued efforts in propogation of these things....truly wonderful. :smile:

All beings since their first aspiration till the attainment of Buddhahood are sheltered under the guardianship of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who, responding to the requirements of the occasion, transform themselves and assume the actual forms of personality.

Thus for the sake of all beings Buddhas and Bodhisattvas become sometimes their parents, sometimes their wives and children, sometimes their kinsmen, sometimes their servants, sometimes their friends, sometimes their enemies, sometimes reveal themselves as devas or in some other forms.

There is now a version available on the iTunes store:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/book/buddhis ... 1551?mt=11" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For the record I never receive any remuneration for this work.

Well, I got to stay in a monastery in Ladakh for free, but I don't get any money for this. :smile:
