India uproar at call in Russia to ban Bhagavad Gita

(Reuters) - Angry MPs forced parliament to close on Monday and protesters gathered outside a Russian consulate over a Siberian trial calling for one of Hinduism's most holy books to be put on a list of banned literature that includes Hitler's Mein Kampf.

The case filed by state prosecutors in the Siberian city of Tomsk says a translation of the Bhagavad Gita is extremist because it insults non-believers, local media in Russia say.

Overall most things in Russia and much of the Former USSR are developing sort of well. Looks like they are poised to reject the Tsar again for sure but hopefully no storming of palaces this times. The last time didn't work out so well.

The article proposes banning the Gita (that evil Gita - perhaps they have not read sections of the Old Testament) regionally or all over Russia or is this within a specific city?
Unfortunately some democracies have banned books so Russians don't necessarily have great models to follow.

The real issue appears to be taking action against the Hare Krishna's and perhaps secondly other proselytizing religious organizations who are a too much for the Russians.
