anyone been to Nyingma Monlam?

Post by Adamantine »

So I may be able to go to the Nyingma Monlam this year and was wondering if anyone that's been could give some details about it, -like what the daily schedule is like, places to stay for cheap but safe/healthy, if the free food is suitable for Westerners, etc. Also if anyone knows who will be leading it this year?

Never been to one. Actually I thought only only the Kagyu did the Monlam thing. Maybe someone can fill me in on the practices of the other sects?

Ever heard of the Mon Lam Chenmo in Lhasa? Guess who goes.
This is how there came to be Kagyu and Nyingma Mon Lams.

All the traditions have Monlam.

Hi, yes, if you mean annual nyingma monlam in Bodhgaya. Its nice to attend if you can recite general prayers such as 21 taras, Sampa lhundrub, Barche lamsel, Namasangiti, Zangcho, Kunsang monlam etc etc quite fast speed, then you can connect with monlam and the atmospehere and knowing the meaning of those prayers it can be very beneficial. Bodhgaya itself is fantastic and the presence of many masters, khenpos, tulkus, monks and meditators from all buddhist traditions is an inspiration and blessing. Even just being present there doing ones own practice is beneficial. This is my experience. Best wishes, mm

i've been.
it was a really great experience.

i didn't care to follow along too much but to just be there in the "energy" of the event.

i would do it again.

i ate the free food and it was yummy.
not to mention fun to hang out with other nyingmapas in the festive spirit of food consumption.
i didn't get sick from the food.
