What is your thoughts on immortality?

Postby Wind » Sun Jun 06, 2010 8:53 am

In other words, if you were given the choice of immortality, would you want it?

He turns his mind away from those phenomena, and having done so, inclines his mind to the property of deathlessness: 'This is peace, this is exquisite — the resolution of all fabrications; the relinquishment of all acquisitions; the ending of craving; dispassion; cessation; Unbinding.'
(Jhana Sutta - Thanissaro Bhikkhu translation)

Immortality.Heck no.
I am 49 and already the body is starting to creak.Knee joints cracking when I kneel down, wearing reading glasses.Guessing that things will only get worse as time goes by ,what will I look like in 100,200-1000 years time?
And crawling on the planets face, some insects called the human race.
Lost in time
Lost in space
And meaning

What if I dont have any?

:anjali:
To study is to know the texts,
To practice is to know your defilements,
To attain the goal is to know and let go.

- Ajahn Lee Dhammadharo

With mindfulness immersed in the body
well established, restrained
with regard to the six media of contact,
always centered, the monk
can know Unbinding for himself.

To someone on an e-mail list I am on: Myself, I've never thought much about death being inconceivable. I guess I always figured there is not much point trying to think about anything that might be inconceivable. Life, on the other hand, is well worth thinking about. It's obviously conceivable, since it starts when one is conceived.

We humans are always craving for change.

We want a position different to mortal, we want change to immortal.

We want better health, better bodies, better conditions. :juggling:
