Saving Buddhist relics from the communists!

A place for discussion of current events. Buddhist news would be particularly appreciated.

Saving Buddhist relics from the communists!

Crates of Buddhist relics were dug up out of the Gobi desert about 500km from the capital of Mongolia. In 1938 the communists came and trashed the place. Fortunately the caretaker at the time stashed the treasures away for safekeeping.

It is really unfortunate isn't it how communism in various countries put the torch to Buddhist temples, institutions and killed so many Buddhists.

Mongolia, China, Russia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, etc...

On the other hand it is amazing to see how fast Buddhism can bounce back after being tortured and severely damaged.

I remember watching the 2005 documentary "The Giant Buddhas" where they gave the backstory and reconstructive plans for the Buddhas of Bamyan in Afghanistan. It's amazing what people are capable of...on both sides.
