A PDF of selected parts of the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā can be found here - http://www.bergen.edu/phr/121/NagarjunaGC.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Alternative, non-PDF translation is at http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=kfsy ... &q&f=false" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; with some commentary, but also incomplete.

A complete online version of the Mulamadhyamakakarika: Verses from the Centre with the Tibetan text that you can copy-paste from
http://rywiki.tsadra.org/index.php/Mula ... the_Centre" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm putting together some dropbox links for you. Once they have uploaded I will post you the links in this thread.

Also:

Bodhisaṃbhāra: Requisites of Enlightenment.
Vigrahavyāvartanīvṛtti: Autocommentary on the Dispeller of Disputes.

The Vigrahavyāvartanī, like the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā, is difficult to follow if one doesn't know which verses represent the opponents' arguments and which verses represent Nāgārjuna's replies.

Last Legend, since you seem to me to come from an East Asian tradition, definitely worth looking into Nagarjuna on the Six Perfections at the link below. It comes from a commentary to the Perfection of Wisdom found only in Chinese. The whole thing hasn't been translated, but parts have. This text had a major influence on almost all forms of east Asian Buddhism. Definitely worth checking out. And the translations of the Bodhisaṃbhāra at this link (two of them), are of much better quality than the one linked to above. (Again, this is another text from Nagarjuna only found in Chinese.)

Great selection of links, everybody. :namaste:

Is there any opinion to which is the most useful commentary to MMK? Is this the best way to approach Nagarjuna, through commentary and explanation?

There has been a lot of good advice of returning to the source of Madhyamaka (ie. the Indian texts) to avoid the differing viewpoints among the Tibetan schools.

Thanks.

Perhaps we could even have a thread based on the "not so subtle" aspects of madhyamaka; a place where some simpler questions can be asked and addressed by those who have been studying this for many years. there is already some good discussion, but perhaps a little advanced at times. After studying a little, some clarification or correction of our understanding would be invaluable.

I think Westerhoff's book, (the fifth to the last in Greg's dropbox linx above) is probably the best basic approach to MMK. Garfield's commentary that goes with his translation is a pretty good intro too, although (as many have pointed out) a bit biased due to his relying on Tibetan, and spectifically Gelugpa, sources. The Westerhoff book is a look at the text in the the context of where it came from, from a sanskrit-enabled scholar (which is, after all, the language the MMK was written in) not how it was viewed in Tibet centuries later.
Thoroughly tame your own mind.
This is (possibly) the teaching of Buddha.

Bocking's Nagarjuna in China is one of the clearest. Full MMK plus commentary closely related to Buddhapalita which clear identifies positions. Translation of Kumarajiva's translation.

What collections (advice, reasoning, or praises) do Nagarjuna's Twenty Verses on the Great Vehicle and Bodhisambahara belong? I can't find the classification for those two works on Rigpawiki http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Nagarjuna
