Top 5 or 10 Suttas

Postby sattva » Mon Apr 19, 2010 2:09 am

I am interested in knowing what members consider to be the top 5 or 10 suttas that a person should study and why. I am especially interested in teachers' opinions.

I have problems with internet service, so forgive me if i don't respond to your replies right away,

Thank you in advance :anjali:

To study is to know the texts,
To practice is to know your defilements,
To attain the goal is to know and let go.

In addition to those above, I'd add the Upanisa Sutta.

I recommend Bhikkhu Bodhi's In the Buddha's Words as it contains a pretty comprehensive anthology of some of the most important suttas found in the Sutta Pitaka.

Greetings bhante,

The last update I heard (which was a few months ago) was that it was in the "editing" stage.

I wouldn't expect to see it still for at least 12-18 months.

But yes, it will be a full version.

Metta,
