The 12th Gangri Karma Rinpoche combines the knowledge of the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism including the Kagyu, Nyingma, Gelug and Sakya. Rinpoche is an exceptional scholar and a leading practitioner in the Dharma at all levels.

Born in Markham, in the east of Tibet, Rinpoche was recognised as the reincarnation of the Eleventh Gangri Karma Rinpoche by H.H. Fourteenth Dalai Lama and His Holiness Sakya Trizin as the major Siddha possessing merit of achievement in rainbow body and great perfection on the 11th of October 1989.

In 1982, in order to explore the traditional Tibetan Buddhism more deeply, Rinpoche overcame the dangers and challenges of crossing the high Himalayan ranges; snow covered passes, icy precipices and the tumbling glacial rivers, walking through valleys and over mountains that were far from the main roads guarded by Chinese soldiers, to study at Drepung Loseling Monastery. Rinpoche received his Gelug pa lineage from H.H. Dalai Lama, Geshe Lo-San- Chia-Tso scholar.

At the suggestion of His Holiness the Sakya Trizin, Rinpoche completed the Sakya lineage from H.H. Sakya Trizin and Khenpo Kunga Wangchuk, followed by an immediate retreat to practice Rechungpa Extraordinary Longevity Practices. Upon leaving the retreat, Rinpoche played a key role over many years as a speaker for numerous conferences and forums exploring the interface of Buddhism with modern science, psychology, and other religious traditions on both a national and international level.
In 1993, Rinpoche returned to Tibet and established a Scientific Buddhist School in his hometown of Markham in east Tibet. At the same time, seeing that there was a high incidence of infant mortality, especially at the time of child-birth, due to a lack of basic medical knowledge and health care facilities in the villages, Rinpoche also established a Tibetan Medical School to train orphans as medical practitioners.

As Founder and Spiritual Director of the Scientific Buddhist School, Rinpoche has overseen its development since its inception in 1994, he has taught courses in Buddhist philosophy, modern science, psychology, meditation and traditional Tibetan medicine and has been very successful in School management. This has led to a complete range of programs at the Scientific Buddhist School for all levels of students and practitioners. The nomads and Tibetans living on the plains in the Markham area always had a deep respect for Rinpoche.

Unfortunately the Chinese authorities closed the school down. On his release he realised that the only way to preserve the teachings was to leave Tibet, where he would be free to follow his studies.

His escape from Tibet almost cost him his life, 27 people died, including his two younger sisters when their truck left the road and crashed into a river.

Rinpoche promotes the Buddhist teachings and works towards continuing the lineage of Martsang Kagyu, establishing a Buddhist College and helping the needs of people towards creating a greater awareness of all aspects of Tibetan culture. He is currently working towards this goal.
