I used to gobble up Attenborough like it was the the finest cheesecake in the world, but in fact I was thinking of birds that clean crocodile's teeth. , similar water-based predator.
It got me thinking though, what is it in these animals, their tendency to go and do this. Is there a collective behavioral based knowledge imparted to these chicks through their genes - A sort of biological imprint of how they are supposed to act and behave, what food they are supposed to search for and so on. I often wonder about our five khandhas and how they operate, sometimes my discursion leads me to ponder about Animal's khandhas, whether their consciousness is weaker, much the same way that our consciousness operates at a lesser level in the dream state. This to me would explain why Animals are still capable of doing wholesome actions, such as cases where a Cat has saved it's owners life from a fire, or the pod of dolphins which protected a family from a shark by surrounding them in a circle. But their tendencies dictate their actions, which dictate their tendencies, just as our actions dictate the tendencies of our dreams.
"For a disciple who has conviction in the Teacher's message & lives to penetrate it, what accords with the Dhamma is this:
'The Blessed One is the Teacher, I am a disciple. He is the one who knows, not I." -
