I was wondering about Dakini puja. We recently received some teachings from Lama Rinchen Phuntsok, and during one of the days that he was teaching, which was Dakini day (10th day of the waning lunar cycle), we did a Dakini puja, I guess it is called. I paid some amonut of attention to what we did, thinking perhaps we were being instructed on how to do this. Lama Rinchen explained some of the things he was doing but not everything. I later asked him if a dakini puja was something we could do on our own at home. He said that we could, and do it everyday even if we wanted to.
I'd like to do the Dakini puja perhaps every month, but I don't feel confident that I picked up on everything that was being done to conduct the puja correctly myself. I've looked around on the net and haven't been able to find any info on how to do a Dakini puja. Is it the kind of thing you had better not do if you don't do know exactly how to do it and you need to follow a fairly strict formula? Or is it just kind of a general thing you do to ask the Dakinis for their blessings and anything you do to make a connection, if sincere, will do?
I feel like I got the gist of it, that offerings and food are laid out, that a plate of white colored food (white cakes, cookies, etc.) is given to the owners of the place where you are conducting the puja, both on this plane and others making this offering for entities from other dimensions who may feel the place belongs to them. That you offer a second plate of meat to hungry ghosts and demons, and a glass of wine to them as well. And finally a third plate of white colored food (white cakes, bread cookies) is offered to the Dharmapalas. Then you begin with some prayers (7 line Prayer to Guru Rinpoche) and do many recitations of the dakini mantra before asking for the dakinis to bless the food bless oneself all sentient beings, etc. Do a food blessing prayer and when that is finished, one eats the food, shares it with others, etc. to absorb the dakini blessing.
Any suggestions or comments about this would be much appreciated, I felt I got quite a boost to my well being and meditation focus from doing this with Lama Rinchen and feel it would be a good thing to do from time to time.
