While the nun experienced the ripening of her own bad karma which hopefully has now be expiated), the rapists made new bad karma which will undoubtedly take them to hell. Therefore, it is important that we pray for everyone involved, the victim and her assailants. In my experience, it is easy to feel sympathy for the victim (and rightly so), but is more difficult to feel sympathy for the assailants. Nevertheless, it is important as Bodhisattvas in training that we do so.
