This is one of my favorite questions.
If a person asks me, "are you a Buddhist?" then I have to consider my answer.
If I say "I am" then who is I and want does am mean?
In Nepal, they say "dharma person".
Maybe an active verb, such as "follow" is more appropriate.
Can I follow the Dharma when I am not thinking about it? I hope so.
So, I ask if you are a Buddhist when you are not thinking about it, in the context of the idea that any sense of identification is a projection of the mind.
Profile Picture: "The Foaming Monk"
The Chinese characters are Fo (buddha) and Ming (bright). The image is of a student of Buddhism, who, imagining himself to be a monk, and not understanding the true meaning of the words takes the sound of the words literally. Likewise, People on web forums sometime seem to be foaming at the mouth. Original painting by P.Volker /used by permission.
