Ah dog stories..gotta love them!
Just last night I did a three mile trek into the forest which has a pretty good layer of snow right now. It was due to my decrepit physical state challenging and tiring.
AT right about the turn around point, I had my smaller dog unleashed as due to the snowpack it couldn't really venture about much. Well at that point the snow pack was much lighter and the smaller dog immediately started to run furthur and furthur away. Of couse I spent time calling it and after a while had to leave(it was night and in the teens or so F). I called the dogs name all the way back home. This in a forest area on trails with no other people visiting these areas for weeks at a time. My home borders the national forest.
Once home I ate, rested, and hearing multiple coyotes yelling; figured it was curtains for the little dog and went back out to where I had lost the dog. NO dog, only coyotes. I then again returned home and found the dog at home yelling and yapping at the coyotes(and chasing the poor feral cats which abide in this area) which it now being safely home, felt probably, quite safe to do.
I never figured the small dog could navigate its way back through the snow in the dark and cold, with threat of coyotes, in snow which was bigger than him at times unassisted. So it seemed quite dull but was perhaps in a sense smarter than I. I misreading it as dull.It probably not misreading me as dull.
Ah nevertheless I got to hike for six miles at night in the cold and snow up hill and at altitude....the last three for no good reason. Gotta love it...
But I had my revenge....I did not pet that dog this morning when I gave the dogs their dog treats. I am so angry!! Perhaps I will tonight. My anger at upon, not my misaprehension, but the dog, will by then be probably quite abated. My disconcertion upon the anger and the misaprehension will perhaps continue a while longer I suspect.
Ah.... the future will have me not petted by dog on occasion....so be it!!
That's my (just last night) intelligent dog story. Coincidentally presenting is this thead on dog intelligence.
They are not intelligent....I am intelligent!! I mutter to myself quite inanely while doing house chores.
