When a me is home is there passion, no real joy, no harmony.
When no me is home is there compassion, joy and harmony.

"In this life, as I was growing up, many teachers and masters led and guided me. My first teacher was my mother, who was filled with compassion and wisdom. She taught me how to always devote my heart in interacting with people and dealing with situations in life and how to concentrate on the present and nowness in everyday activities. I did not understand why she was so strict and insistent that I did as she taught me.

Two years ago, I moved to the United States. My Buddhist master gave me the same “meditation” instruction - to transform myself, I must devote my heart to everyday household chores and hosting guests while maintaining in the present at all times. After living as a simple housewife for two years, I began to understand the true meaning of practicing Buddhism. Faith, praying, studying sutras, or preaching are only a part of Buddhism. When we are always mindful of our thoughts and remain in the present, a natural joy and harmony develops. This sense of joy and harmony radiates in every moment of our lives and brings happiness to ourselves and others".

By Yangjin Lamu.

May the empty sound be listened without mind running behind.

A quote out of the book: "The essence of Buddhist practice is not so much an effort at changing your thoughts or your behavior so that you can become a better person, but in realizing that no matter what you might think about the circumstances that define your life, you're already good, whole and complete".
