just a guess but all of his other books have very nice commentary I am hoping this one does too. I have been waiting for this for a very long time. I am a big fan of his translations/commentaries

The translation is based on the Chinese of Gunabhadra (with references to variant readings by Bodhiruchi, Shikshananda, and the Sanskrit) and does not include the "Sagathakam". It should run about 400 pages, sixty percent text, forty percent notes and commentary. It is currently being checked for the more obvious gaffs by Paul Harrison at Stanford and Dan Lusthaus at Harvard. Just happened to be cruising the web and found your site. Look like a good one. Keep up the good work.

Excellent that you decided to go with the Gunabhadra/Song. Did you also not include the first Ravana chapter as well?

I just wanted to say that I really loved reading your translation of the Tao Te Ching when I was a teenager. It inspired me a great deal. I should read some of your other books--perhaps I'll buy this new book you're working on when it comes out. You rock!

Thanks for the encouragement Luke. You're really going to want to buy this book. It will surprise you. As for Fa Dao's question, Yes, I include the first chapter, which I have rendered based mostly on Bodhiruchi and Shikshananda but also on the Sanskrit. Its a composite and begins the book, which then segues into the Gunabhadra text with chapter two.

Sounds great!! I truly have been looking forward to this for years when you had mentioned in an interview that you would be doing it. I have used many of your translations for the Dharma classes I teach...specifically the Heart, Diamond, and Platform Sutras. In fact, if I am able I have been seriously thinking of trying to memorize the Lankavatara over a period of a few years as part of my practice. Just been waiting for your translation.

I too look forward to this book (just happen to have The Zen Teaching Of Bodhidharma Trans. by Red Pine in front of me. One of the best books ever!) and am glad to see this topic here.
