I don't have a link as I received this in an email:
The first class of nuns at the new Sakya college – Tsechen Sheddub Samten Phuntsok Ling – is about to wind up their second year of studies. The 25 nuns spent the 2009-10 academic year in what has been called “pre-first year,” studying Nagarjuna’s Letter to a Friend and preparing themselves for college work.
In July 2010, the actual First Year of college began with the 2010-11 academic year and a semester studying Santideva’s Bodhisattvacaryavatara. The second semester has been devoted to the study of Aryadeva’s Catuhsataka.
The new college teaches the traditional curriculum for advanced Buddhist studies, including the six major fields of Prajanaparamita (Perfection of Wisdom), Vinaya (Monastic Discipline), Madhyamaka (Middle Way Philosophy), Abdhidharma (Ethical Psychology); Pramana (Logic and Epistemology); and Trisamvaraprabedhana (Distinguishing of Three Vows).
The entering class of 25 nuns was selected from among many applicants from the Rinchen Choling Sakya Nunnery near Dehradun, which currently provides training in ritual studies to 200 nuns.
PLEASE JOIN US ON JUNE 8, 2011 ~ IN PERSON OR IN SPIRIT:
CELEBRATE & PARTICIPATE !
On June 8, 2011, friends and supporters of the Sakya Nuns Study Institute will make offerings for the benefit of the new college at a simple fundraiser occurring in Walden, New York.
The event will be honored by the presence of HER EMINENCE GYALYUM CHENMO, who will receive the donations on behalf of the college and speak to the group. HER EMINENCE DAGMO KUSHOK will also grace the event with her presence.
The theme of the mid-morning get together in a park near the Sakya temple is to pay tribute to the Sakya Jetsunmas and accomplished female disciples of Sakya masters. Tales will be told about their achievements, and a booklet containing biographical sketches will be given to all donors.
Please honor women’s potential for higher education and enlightenment by supporting the new Sakya Nuns Study Institute.
His Holiness Sakya Trizin’s personal funds and the Tibetan Nuns Project have covered the cost of the basic program for the first class of students.
So far this year, American donors have given $3,000 that will be offered to the new college in June. This is approximately the cost of educating two nuns for an entire year! We are very grateful to everyone who has donated so far, but more help is needed (see the list on the left describing how your generous donations will be used).
You are invited to join the event on June 8, 2011, in person or in spirit by sending a donation to the Sakya College for Nuns Fund, which has an account at Bank of America that is maintained by volunteers to collect tax deductible donations for the college. Please consider making a donation at one of the following levels (U.S. donations are tax deductible):
Gold sponsor $20 per month or $240 per year
Silver sponsor $10 per month or $120 per year
Bronze sponsor $5 per month or $60 per year
One-time donation any amount
