About H.H. Sakya Trizin

H.H. Sakya Trizin is a highly accomplished Buddhist master respected by all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and teaches widely throughout the world. He has bestowed the extensive Lam Dre teaching cycle, which is the most important teaching of the Sakya Order over 18 times on various continents, and also transmitted major initiation cycles such as “Collection of All the Tantras”, and the “Collection of all the Sadhanas”, which contain almost all of the empowerments for the esoteric practices of the various schools of Tibetan Buddhism to hundreds of lineage holders in the next generation of Buddhist teachers.

About the Empowerments

Guru Rinpoche Empowerment

Guru Rinpoche, also known as Loppon Padmsambhava, originally came from the mystical land of tantra known as Oddiyana. In the 8th Century he was invited by King Trisong Detsen from Nepal to establish Samye Monastery. During his stay in Tibet, Guru Rinpoche tamed all the gods and demons of Tibet, permanently established Buddhism in Tibet, leaving behind many teachings known as "terma" for future generations. Since many people consider His Holiness Sakya Trizin to be the emanation of Guru Rinpoche himself, receiving this empowerment is like receiving Guru Rinpoche's empowerment from Guru Rinpoche in person. Please join us for this special opportunity to receive the empowerment of Guru Rinpoche from His Holiness, Sakya Trizin.

The Ghantapada Five Deity Cakrasamvara Empowerment

This is a rare opportunity to receive the Cakrasamvara empowerment from one of the greatest living masters of Tibetan Buddhism. The Cakrasamvara Tantra is one of the most important cycles of Vajrayana and the source of all the practices related to both Cakrasamvara and Vajrayogini. It is one of the two main tantric lineages practiced in the Sakya school, the other being the Hevajra cycle. Chakrasamvara is considered to be one of the most effective tantric practices for this day and age because the tantra of Cakramsavara is still being taught in the twenty four mystical places in India.

Of the three main traditions of Cakrasamvara preserved in the Sakya tradition, the Ghantapada tradition is considered the most profound. Anyone who wishes to later receive the Vajrayogini empowerment is encouraged to come, since this empowerment is a required pre-requisite for Vajrayogini. Anyone who is practicing either Heruka or Vajrayogini is encouraged to come and strengthen their connection with the mandala of Chakrasamvara.

NOTE: This is a two day empowerment and attendance of both days is required.

Long Life Initiation

It is traditional to conclude dharma event with a Long life initiations to support longevity and health.

Rite for Purifying the Karma of The Dead:

His Holiness will conduct a Changchog ritual. This beautiful ritual, one of the oldest in Tibetan Buddhism, comes from the Sarvadurgati Parishodana tantra. It consists of beautiful chanting, with elaborate symbolic hand gestures (called mudras) performed along with mantras as they are recited. The purpose of this ritual is to purify the deceased's karma of taking rebirth in lower realms, ensure rebirth in higher realms, and the eventual attainment of buddhahood.

To participate in this ritual, one must bring or send a photo upon which the name of the deceased person has been inscribed along with a symbolic merit offering on behalf of the deceased. As the photo will not be returned make sure that the photo that is sent is a copy and not an original.

If you cannot attend in person, you may send the photo and check to:

Yes. I feel a greater affinity for the teachings being given in MA, than in NY (where I live). Need to see whether I want to drive or take the train there.

I may stop by a teaching in NYC though. I would very much like to make it to the Vajrakila teaching in Canada, but can't say for sure right now. Jetsun Kushok-La is giving a teaching in Cali that I plan on going to....no details have been given yet in terms of the dates.

I just got a notification in my email:

His Holiness the Sakya Trizin will confer the empowerment of Guru Rinpoche Padmasambava for the first time in America.

The Guru Rinpoche empowerment and transmission of Barche Lamsel and Sampa Lhundrub to help overcome obstacles and fullfil one's wishes.

I looked up Barche Lamsel and found the following:

Barché Lamsel (Wyl. bar chad lam sel) — the outer practice of prayer from Lamé Tukdrup Barché Kunsel (The Heart Practice of the Lama: Averting All Obstacles on the Path), which was revealed by Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa together with Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo.

Sampa Lhundrup (Wish Fulfilling Prayer) is a powerful protection prayer written by Guru Rinpoche. This practice is said to be effective in helping one achieve good fortune and protection from calamities. It also effective in helping one attain their wishes quickly and also, overcome all kinds of obstacles on their path to enlightenment

So does this empowerment have two different mantras?

He will give the lung for these prayers, and an empowerment of Padmasambhava, cycle TBD.

Both of these are "prayers"--they're classified as "Outer Practices," and are considered part of a "Path of Supplications."

Here is Sampa Lhundrup visualization:

And here is Barchay Lamsel:

The usual mantra is used, with some additions, etc....I will try to find the texts for you on line....

"Absolute Truth is not an object of analytical discourse or great discriminating wisdom,
It is realized through the blessing grace of the Guru and fortunate Karmic potential.
Like this, mistaken ideas of discriminating wisdom are clarified."

Possessing the Body, Speech and Mind, you are the glorious guide of beings.
Having discarded all obscurations, you perceive the three realms vividly.
Having achieved the supreme siddhi, sublime body of great bliss,
You surely dispel the obstacles to attaining enlightenment.
With your kindness, bestow your blessings upon me.
With your affection, guide myself and others on the path.
With your realization, grant me the siddhis.
With your powers, dispel the obstacles of myself and others.
Clear the outer obstacles externally.
Clear the inner obstacles internally.
Clear the secret obstacles spontaneously.
Respectfully I bow and take refuge in you.
Om ah hung vajra guru padma siddhi hung

Do you know which long life empowerment will be given on the last day?
