its called the gift of war in an election year with a president with an all time low rating.

major psyop ahead!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychologi ... ted_States)

Psychological operations are planned propaganda operations to convey selected information and indicators to foreign audiences to influence their emotions, motives, objective reasoning, and ultimately the behaviour of foreign governments, organisations, groups, and individuals.[1]

The purpose of United States psychological operations (PSYOP) is to induce or reinforce behaviour favourable to US objectives. They are an important part of the range of diplomatic, informational, military, and economic activities available to the US. They can be utilised during both peacetime and conflict. There are three main types: strategic, operational, and tactical. Strategic PSYOP include informational activities conducted by the US government agencies outside of the military arena, though many utilise Department of Defense (DOD) assets. Operational PSYOP are conducted across the range of military operations, including during peacetime, in a defined operational area to promote the effectiveness of the joint force commander's (JFC) campaigns and strategies. Tactical PSYOP are conducted in the area assigned to a tactical commander across the range of military operations to support the tactical mission against opposing forces.

PSYOP can encourage popular discontent with the opposition's leadership and by combining persuasion with a credible threat, degrade an adversary's ability to conduct or sustain military operations. They can also disrupt, confuse, and protract the adversary's decision-making process, undermining command and control.[2] When properly employed, PSYOP have the potential to save the lives of friendly or enemy forces by reducing the adversary's will to fight. By lowering the adversary's morale and then its efficiency, PSYOP can also discourage aggressive actions by creating disaffection within their ranks, ultimately leading to surrender.

PSYOP is a component of information operations:

The integrated employment of the core capabilities of electronic warfare, computer network operations, psychological operations, military deception, and operations security, in concert with specified supporting and related capabilities, to influence, disrupt, corrupt or usurp adversarial human and automated decision making while protecting our own. Also called IO.[3]

May he have a favorable rebirth. May Amitabha Buddha guide him to Dewachen and from there may he receive a prophecy of Buddhahood and achieve perfect enlightenment thus enabling him to act for the welfare of all sentient beings!

There are a number of interesting details about this event. Some of them:

Bin Laden was living a mansion in the suburbs, not in a desperate hideout in the mountains.

This assault worked because the Americans didn't tell the Pakistanis what they were doing before they did it, like usual. Which means the Pakistanis have likely been covering for him this whole time.

***

My hope: may this horrible event bring the American wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan to a swift conclusion, or at least shorten them. May there be peace and stability in South Asia, and prosperity and health for all.

May Osama bin Laden and his now deceased associates take a favorable rebirth with a meaningful connection to Buddha Dharma.

Highly unlikely when you consider that these wars have absolutely nothing to do with Osama Bin Laden and everything to do with US imperialism.

A guy can pray, can't he?

But to your point: Afghanistan was about revenge at first, and later, about Bush's incompetence and finally Obama's desire to do what Bush couldn't or wouldn't do (find bin Laden, as in the embarrassing video Heruka posted above... embarrassing to Bush, I mean.) I don't buy the imperialism argument for this war.

Iraq (like the Philippines, like Chile...) is another story.

It basically doesn't matter as far as the wars are concerned. Certainly the real military target would have been the former Eygptian peadiatrician as he is supposed to have been the operational leader of bin Laden's terrorists. bin Laden's group had apparently been reduced to a fund dispersing operation fueling terrorist attacks.

Human beings are intent on continuing warfare well into the 21st century. While the 19th century was no picnic it wasn't a near continuous river of blood like the 20th century was. People are continuing this evil in this century.

Beings will not be converted to Buddhism but we need to encourage active bodhicitta in all religious institutions. Every religion has some form of relative bodhicitta - universal love and kindness, friednliness to all beings, helping all beings as much as possible and not abandoning beings in anger and hatred. This way we could transform our planet over time.

Five bizarre GOP reactions to bin Laden’s death

WASHINGTON – The news that Osama bin Laden was killed Sunday during a U.S. firefight in Pakistan led to heaps of praise for military service members and President Barack Obama, even from his biggest political adversaries. Some GOP responses, however, have been pretty bizarre.

Here's a roundup of some of the stranger reactions.

1) Obama's base didn't want this

MSNBC anchor and former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough (FL) suggested that killing bin Laden required Obama to defy his base and his beliefs.

"I think Republicans should stand up and certainly salute Barack Obama for making some — again, for making some very tough choices that his own base did not want him to make," Scarborough said. "That takes courage, that takes leadership, and we saw the results of that courage and leadership saying no to his own base yesterday."

Scarborough added that for Obama, this required "going against his own ideological leanings" -- even though Obama vowed as a candidate, "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Qaeda."

That's laughable. He's nothing compared to US presidents and other politicians.
Although many individuals in this age appear to be merely indulging their worldly desires, one does not have the capacity to judge them, so it is best to train in pure vision.

We apologize for the mistake in the report about the death of Bin Laden. There was a typo. Bin Laden is dad. Additionally, congratulations!

OBI WAN IS DEAD SAYS VADER

http://www.galacticempiretimes.com/2011 ... illed.html

Obi-Wan Kenobi ’s demise is a defining moment in the stormtrooper-led fight against terrorism, a symbolic stroke affirming the relentlessness of the pursuit of those who turned against the Empire at the end of the Clone Wars. What remains to be seen, however, is whether it galvanizes Kenobi’s followers by turning him into a martyr or serves as a turning of the page in the war against the Rebel Alliance and gives further impetus to Emperor Palpatine to step up Stormtrooper recruitment.

In an earlier statement issued to the press, Kenobi boasted that striking him down could make him "more powerful than you could possibly imagine."

How much his death will affect the rebel alliance itself remains unclear. For years, as they failed to find him, Imperial leaders have said that he was more symbolically important than operationally significant because he was on the run and hindered in any meaningful leadership role. Yet he remained the most potent face of terrorism in the Empire, and some of those who played down his role in recent years nonetheless celebrated his death.
