Hiya folks,
A lama will be in town this weekend.
I bought a bottle of wine for her. Any suggestions on how to offer it? I'm not sure what is appropriate!

Is a bottle of wine, in itself, an appropriate gift for a lama?
It doesn't seem too conducive to Right Mindfulness to me.

It's not appropriate to offer wine. Nuns and monks (and some lay folk) take a vow against using intoxicants. I would offer her something else, like flowers, food, or even money.

She's not a nun.
And I have heard other cases where it is appropriate to offer wine to a Lama. I mean, it could very well be used for tsog or something of the like.

Hmm... I'm not an expert on these matters, but I think that it would be better to just do the traditional thing and offer her a kata and an envelope with some money inside.
If you're determined to give her wine, maybe you could put it in a nice gift bag to make it more discreet and just hand it to her attendant lama/student who takes the donations. When I've received blessings from important lamas, they usually have other lamas deal with the donations.
