As per His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje's instruction, led by His Eminence Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche, the monks of Rumtek Monastery, Dharma Chakra Center, Sikkim is performing Guru Yoga Puja for H.E Shamar Rinpoche's Mahaparinirvana.
The Mahaparinirvana Puja will continue till the 49th day.

Dear Dharma Friends,

One of the manifestations of the great Buddha Amitabha passed into paranirvana on June 11th. I am very sad to share with you the news that Kyabje Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche has passed. Many of us are left with a feeling of great loss and deep sadness.

Shamar Rinpoche’s sudden passing is a clear lesson of impermanence for all of us. There is no escape from the certainty of death, which can happen at any time to young or old or somewhere in between.

Our first teacher, Buddha Shakyamuni passed away. My own root gurus and Shamar Rinpoche have also passed away. May the truth of impermanence be clear to you! Please make prayers and aspirations that the wishes and vision of the great Shamar Rinpoche may be quickly fulfilled. May Rinpoche be swiftly reborn for the benefit of all sentient beings!

Today’s startling news that H.H. Gyalwa Shamarpa Rinpoche has entered parinirvana at his Dharma Centre in Germany came as a great shock, filling us with sadness. Rinpoche’s very sudden and entirely unexpected passing is a tremendous loss to Buddhism, specifically to the Kagyu Lineage, and to a great many Dharma practitioners everywhere.

It is as though the blackness of night has suddenly swallowed up our world. Our sangha pray that Gyalwa Shamarpa’s enlightened activities and vast aspirations for the benefit of all beings continue to unfold, without interruption, and quickly reach fruition.

We wish to express our deepest condolences to Jigme Rinpoche, to Gyalwa Sharmapa Rinpoche’s other family members and to his extensive sangha. May the sun of his next incarnation dawn as soon as possible!

Dear friends,

I would like to let you know that Shamar Rinpoche's meditation state has ended today on the auspicious day of Buddha Shakyamuni's parinirvana.
He is now being prepared so that we can pay our last homage at his European Seat of the Bodhi Path, at Renchen Ulm, Germany. Thursday, June 19, he will be starting the journey to Asia, where he will be cremated later. Details will be given in short.

In the final teaching Shamar Rinpoche gave before his passing, he said: "You don't have to be afraid of death if you know how to practice in death."

May we all join our aspirations and prayers for his swift rebirth.

Je voudrais vous tenir informés que l'état d'absorption méditative de Shamar Rinpoché a pris fin ce matin, en ce jour de bon augure où le Bouddha Shakyamuni est passé en parinirvana. Son corps est maintenant préparé afin que nous puissions lui rendre un dernier hommage en son siège européen des Bodhi Path, à Renchen Ulm.

For people who wish to go to Renchen-Ulm before HH Shamarpa goes to Asia: Renchen-Ulm is located 20 kilometers to the east of Strasbourg. The Ulm in Renchen-Ulm is a small part of the town of Renchen and should not be confused with the much larger city of Ulm about 150 kilometers further to the east. HH Shamarpa specifically wanted a center near Strasbourg. Renchen-Ulm is also easily drivable from any point in Germany and is just off the A5 autobahn running north-south paralleling the Rhein after Frankfurt am Main down to Switzerland (ending at Weil am Rhein). In most cases, either drive like you're going to Strasbourg or take the train to Strasbourg and then take the local train, erc.

There are only three trains a day to Renchen and they all go through Appenweier. In only one case is there a train that goes to Renchen itself (the other two connections are by bus). There is apparently a train stop in Renchen-Ulm itself but I haven't seen the details. In any case, there is a wait from Renchen to the stop at Renchen-Ulm (from Strasbourg is takes about 45-50 minutes to get to Renchen but 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours to get to Renchen-Ulm).
I haven't checked out the regional trains coming from the east or south.

The train from Berlin or Koeln goes to Karlsruhe or Baden-Baden and then to Renchen.
Munich -> Karlsruhe -> Renchen.
Zurich -> Konstanz or Singen -> Renchen

To the guru, embodiment of wisdom and compassion
Of the assembly of countless fields of the Victors and their heirs
To the three jewels, unfailing refuge, and the assembly of protectors
I single pointedly supplicate with my three doors!

All Victors gathered into the single form of the Lord of Sukhavati
The display of endless and limitless manifestations
The single embodiment of the wisdom of the eminent lords of the three families
Pre-eminent of all beings of this age, to you, victory!

The profound wisdom and power of compassion
Supreme at reversing the attachments of beings
By the inseparable three secrets of the lords of the three families
May the supreme incarnation of the wisdom of the Dharma swiftly return!

Accomplishing the unified enlightened activity
And attaining the highest stage in limitless realms
For the sake of innumerable beings of countless eons
Swiftly return to perform your miraculous activities!

Revealing the distinctive lineage of Gampopa
The peerless doctrine which shines like the Sun
And the teachings of the practice lineage of Marpa
May the supreme incarnation of that family swiftly return!

By the truth and blessing of the unerring Three Jewels
And the spirits who form the retinue and consorts of Mahakala
And the power of their unobstructed buddha activity
