a new friend from dhammawheel

Post by Sher »

Hi All:
I have been participating over at dhammawheel for the past three weeks, and I also wanted to join dharmawheel, because although I know the most about Theravada Buddhism, and I practice in this vein, I also have questions about Mahayana, and am interested in getting to understand Mahayana better than I do.

I live on an island in SE Alaska. Don't know any Buddhists here. I'm married to a non-Buddhist scientist, and take care of quite a few animals--birds, dogs, ducks, and cats. I'm very active in community work, leadership roles, play old time fiddle music, teach in the humanities for U of Alaska, and enjoy all outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing...

I have a daily meditation practice, and I'm committed to going along and trying to understand change, process, what constitutes real happiness--the type of happiness Buddha realized.

I was introduced to Buddhism through Thich Nhat Hanh, and he holds a dear spot in my heart ...

Anyway, hello everyone -- I hope you are well. Sher

Hi Sher, a warm welcome to you! I'm glad to have you with us. I hope that you find something useful here. There are some seasoned practitioners among us and I'm sure they would be more than happy to assist you as you make your way through learning about the Mahayana.

Make yourself at home!

Best wishes,
Drolma

Alaska eh? a beautiful part of the world i've wanted to visit for a long time! :smile:
Although I too am within Amida's grasp,
Passions obstruct my eyes and I cannot see him;
Nevertheless, great compassion is untiring and
illumines me always.

Hi all,

I thought I would register a presence over here since Its my opinion that many Buddhist traditions point the way. How one follows directions is not wholly dependent upon the directions given.

Attainment too is emptiness
