3 teachers...

I am investigating possible new teachers/study sources and wonder what people's opinions/experience of these three are:

1.Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche - http://www.mangalashribhuti.org/

2.Tulku Ogyen Rinpoche - http://www.buddhaofcompassion.org/ogyen-tulku.htm

3.Lama Lhanang Rinpoche - http://jigmelingpa.org/

I am looking to hear if anyone has had experience of studying with these Rinpoches, and if there is anything very good or very bad to report...

I want to use the rest of my current life studying on one stream, rather than a course here with this group and a course there with that teacher/leader. i want to find the right place to 'stick and study' for 5-20 years, since my former online teacher passed away just over a year ago.

Highest recommendation for Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche. He offered very clear, thorough, and precise explanations at a teaching for some very complex topics, and also exhibited great kindness and compassion. I was very impressed with the quality of students in his sangha.

I am not familiar with the other teachers you mentioned, but I do know DKR is a highly respected teacher of genuine dharma.

If you are looking to study online with a teacher and focus on one path then may I also suggest Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche and Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche who provide online teachings in a Gradual fashion

IMO, another thing to consider is how well they are connected to and regarded by other respected teachers. DKR is very well connected: his family, his root guru, lineage, students including Pema Chodron etc etc. I was booked to do a retreat with him last year but unfortunately it was cancelled.

Another very important issue is, how easy is it to attend teaching events, if there are any online courses for far away students.

I once made the mistake to get involved with (and emotionally attached to) a teacher/group that doesn't offer any courses or activities in my region, who has a notoriously secretive group of older students and zero online activities.

Now I am a person with health problems, no car and little money and it turned out to be fairly impossible. So if you are not a "meet the teacher once in your life and then practice until you attain enlightenment on your own" type of student, commit only to a teacher/group where there is a minimum amount of course program that you can actually follow. You save yourself a lot of hassle and possibly heartache.

1.Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche - http://www.mangalashribhuti.org/ is great.. I have attended some teachings and I got a lot out of them. However, as others have pointed out: if you are in England this may make it challenging. But if you don't mind traveling a distance to teachings or retreats: or alternatively inviting a teacher to England and organizing their stay, travel, and venue, etc. then that is very good. Also, although it is best to occasionally practice in person with the teacher, receive the proper transmissions, etc.. Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche has a wide selection of recorded teachings available. You can even listen to some first to gage your connection.

I apologize that it has taken me so long to respond.

Tulku Ogyen keeps a fairly low profile. He is probably best known in Palyul circles. He is a young tulku trained by HH Penor Rinpoche although I have heard that Tulku Ogyen's lineage is from Dudjom Rinpoche. I attended several empowerments with him (and many others) in August 2003 with HH Penor Rinpoche. Tulku Ogyen was pretty young at that time.

I don't know how long Tulku Ogyen has been giving teachings, but I took an empowement from him (either from Nam Cho or Longchen Nyingthig, so at any rate what the general Palyul stream) in Northern VA about 2 years ago and am convinced of his sincerity, compassion, wisdom and dedication to the Dharma and his strong teaching ability.
