Buddha's Poem #24/#25/#26 [By Yawares Sastri
[Based on Dhammapada/Buddha's verses translated from the Pali by Daw Mya Tin, M.A.]

A person with
VIRIYA, SATI, SAMADHI
Pure in his thought..words and deeds
His physical and spiritual actions are unblemished
Guard his senses, earn honest living according to the law
That person's fame and fortune will increase more and much more

Evil, lust... or passion
Can not destroy a man of high moral
Who guards his senses so well
Just like an island..escape from hurricane

Fools are wild and disorder
Wise-men are peaceful with discipline
Fools are not mindful of others
Wise-men cherish mindfulness as a great treasure

Sawaddee Ka...Today is Uposatha Day and วันลอยกระทง Loy Kra-Thong Festival in Thailand

I love วันลอยกระทง ,... usually, Loy Kra-Thong Festival always when full moon / high-tide for the Chao Phra-ya River and all rivers in Bangkok. It is one of the most happy days for Thai people, especially for people who are in love..there is nothing like to ลอยกระทง with someone you truly love under the full-moon.

Buddha's Poem #27/#28/#29 [By Yawares Sastri]
[Based on Dhammapada/Buddha's Verses by Daw Mya Tin, M.A.]

Always follow the Buddhas' path
Avoid all sensual pleasures enjoyment
Always be with mindfulness..be diligent
Cultivate Tranquillity and Insight Development

Practice.. till you know the suffering
Know.. the origin of suffering
Search.. to know the end of suffering
Practice The Eightfold Path.. to end the suffering

Wise-men with supreme wisdom live sorrowless life
As if they are on top of the mountain
Look at the suffering people down below
Suffer with love and bondage..never know how to let go!

Sawaddee Ka.. :anjali: Today is Uposatha Day :anjali:

When I was in girls school, my teacher, who became a monk for 3 months dedicated to his parents, still had shaved-head when came back to teach us..he loved to talk about Magha, once he said that Magha had 4 wives, he said " I have only 1 wife and she gives me so much headache ". We all laughed :rolling: I miss this teacher, he was so gifted in telling Dhammapada/Jataka stories, made them so fun/entertaining.

Buddha's Poem #30/#31/#32 [By Yawares Sastri]

The great man, Magha, and his 33 friends
Built public roads and rest-houses
Also observed 7 obligations with 'Viriya'
After death, he was reborn as Sakka, king of devis and devas

A monk received kammathana from the Buddha
Went to meditate in a forest
He perceived a forest-fire to be like... the Magga-Insight
Burnt all the fetters....Nibbana realized!!

Bhikkhus who practice Tranquillity and Insight Development
Content with only a few wants, see danger in Samsara
Abandon all moral defilements..kilesas
Will be closer and closer to Nibbana
----------
NOTE: 7 Obligations:

(1) he would support his parents
(2) he would respect the elders
(3) he would be gentle of speech
(4) he would avoid back-biting
(5) he would not be avaricious, but would be generous
(6) he would speak the truth
(7) he would restrain himself from losing his temper

Sawaddee Ka...Today is Uposatha Day.

Oh, my mind loves to wander..but when I count my malabeads..Buddho 1-110..many rounds...my mind is with Buddho all the time.

Buddha's Poem #33/#34/#35 [By Yawares Sastri เยาวเรศ ]
[Based on Dhammapada/Buddha's Verses by Daw Mya Tin, M.A.]

The mind loves to wander
with all thought through the 6 senses
The mind is hot..the mind is cold
The mind is so hard to control

The mind quivers just like a fish taken out of the river
The mind struggles when taken out of sensual pleasures
The mind wanders through the six senses
The untamed mind wanders forever

The mind loves to wander everywhere
The mind is hard to tame.. or to train
The mind always seeks sensual pleasures
Whoever controls the mind, will get out of Samsara forever!

Buddha's Poem #36/#37/#38 [By Yawares Sastriเยาวเรศ]
[Based on Dhammapada/Buddha's Verses by Daw Mya Tin, M.A.]

The mind is impossible to see
The mind is sometimes strong..sometimes fragile
Wise-men learn to guard their minds with mindfulness
Well guarded-mind brings peace and happiness!

One should learn to control his mind
Only the calm mind can see the Noble Truth
One should strive hard for liberation
One should try to be free of ill-will/ignorance/passion

Quivering mind doesn't feel the dhamma
Wavering mind is ignorant
You can't grow wisdom in unsteady mind
The 4 Noble Truths do not go with filthy mind

Buddha's Poem #39/#40/#41 [by Yawares Sastri เยาวเรศ ]
[Based on Dhammapada/Buddha's Verses translated from the Pali by Daw Mya Tin,M.A.]

There is no danger for a man free from Raga
Free from Dosa..free from Moha..free from defilements
Abhassara-mind.. free from sexual pleasure enjoyment
Vimutti-citta.. free from this world imprisonment!!

Our bodies
are so fragile
Just like clay vessels
If we keep our minds strong
Use weapon of knowledge to fight Mara
Once achieve victory, keep guarding our minds
From being attached to jhana serenity, leave it behind!

Don't be attached to this body
Soon this body will be old
This body will die..lie on the ground
This dead body, no-one wants it around

Sawaddee Ka...Today is UPOSATHA DAY..and MERRY CHRISTMAS !!

Image

Buddha's Poem #42/#43[By Yawares Sastri]
[Based on Dhammapada/Buddha's Verses by Daw Mya Tin, M.A.]

Bad men can harm us
Enemies can cause us troubles
But nothing can be deadly or dangerous
As wrongly directed mind can do to all of us!

Parents can teach you..protect you
Relatives, kalayanamittas can help you
But rightly-directed mind is greater than parents, relatives, friends
Well-directed mind can lead you to Nibbana or at least..heaven

Buddha's Poem #44/#45/#46 [By Yawares Sastri]
[Based on Dhammapada/Buddha's Verses by Daw Mya Tin, M.A.]

Wonder who can analyze this world, heaven and hell?
Wonder who can examine the Path of Virtue?
Wonder who can take this trip of Eternal Truth Adventure?
Just like wise-florists choose and pick beautiful flowers

Ariya-Sekhas who practise the Dhamma, have entered the Path of Virtue,
can examine this world, hell and heaven.
They can examine the Path to the Noble Truth
Just like expert-florists know which beautiful flowers to choose

One who realizes that this body is impermanent,
this body is unsubstantial like a mirage.
That person can get out of this long Samsara
That person can escape the sight of Yamaraja

Image

Buddha's Poem #47/#48/#49 [By Yawares Sastri]
[Based on Dhammapada/Buddha's Verses by Daw Mya Tin, M.A.]

A man who loves to pick Mara's flowers
A man whose mind obsessed with sensual pleasures
He will be carried away by Death
Just like hurricane sweeps the sinners into the sea of Death

Mara's flowers are beautiful and tempting
Just like sweet temptation of sensual pleasures
People with kilesas-tanhas will be overpowered by Death
Mara loves to keep Puthujjanas as prisoners..forever

Bumble bees collect nectar without hurting the flowers
Or damage flowers'scent or flowers'color
Good bhikkhus should receive alms-food and other offerings
Without affecting the faith, generosity or wealth of the givers

Morning light on a drop of dew,
pure and fresh made not itself,
nor another, ah so simple
the radiant grace of emptiness.

Sawaddee Ka.. Muni,

Texas morning
So beautiful and cold
But my heart is warm with Dhamma
Walking meditation, listen to Katha-chantings
Reading Muni 's dhamma-poem...so wonderful and nice
I must say that reading Muni 's dhamma-poem is my Friday delight

Change
aggrieves my heart,
puts the world upside down,
makes it turn, but
hurts.
