i found many of these to be quite moving. a great opportunity to reflect on compassion and selfless service.

Awesome. I had just shared this on my facebook yesterday.

Thank you for that. I had to squelch a tear... :anjali:

Bodhivana Monastery near Melbourne has this picture on the wall, a very similar compassionate (and cute) act.
It's a firefighter giving a drink to a Koala after a bushfire.

Amazing, James! Normally a koala would run a mile, or scratch the human to pieces.

Nice pics. But as one who has had a lot of experience around the ocean, I'd advise everyone to squelch the desire to save an animal who has fallen into anything other than a bathtub. Some of these people could have been killed.
Never jump into open water! It is dangerous even for a strong swimmer.

Greetings Alan,

That one on the rocks with the lamb certainly looked pretty rough.

The one in Melbourne where the little dog was rescued however, that's just a bay. I was a bit surprised to see that series of pics in there because, sure it's nice that the guy saved the dog and all, but wasn't anything particularly amazing that 50%+ of people capable of floating wouldn't have done anyway.

Metta,
Retro. :)

Thank you for these beautiful uplifting photographs. Made me feel much better about humanity at a time when things are challenging for me. However I disagree with the poster who said that one should not attempt to rescue an animal. Are not all sentient beings deserving of the same efforts? And if, while attempting a compassionate act, we should lose our lives, isn't that among the better ways to die? Doing something selfless for another living being?
