Amitabha Million Mantra Recitation

Post by KonchokZoepa »

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are enjoying a colorful fall season in the northern hemisphere or a fruitful spring season in the southern hemisphere!

We want to remind everyone that Garchen Institute’s annual Amitabha Million Mantra Accumulation starts tomorrow morning, October 19, at 9:00 am and ends at 5:00 pm on October 21 at 5:00 pm. The counter is at the website, www.garchen.net, and we have a great headstart of almost 200,000 mantras. Thank you, worldwide sangha! Together we will meet the million mark by Monday!

It is H.E. Garchen Rinpoche’s and Drubwang Rinpoche’s wish that we conduct this practice of the Buddha of Infinite Light each year, participating as much as our schedules permit. Through Amitabha practice, our self-grasping and attachment are transmuted into the clear-sighted warmth of true loving compassion.

You can add your mantras directly to the counter at the website, or you can call us at 928-925-1237 or email us at [email protected] if you would like for us to add your mantras for you. We love hearing from you!

Rinpoche says that everyone who participates receives the merit for the full accumulation, and no prior experience is necessary.

BUDDHA AMITABHA’S MANTRA:

OM AMI DEWA HRI

(pronounced OHM AH MEE DAY WAH HREE)

May all be auspicious!
If the thought of demons
Never rises in your mind,
You need not fear the demon hosts around you.
It is most important to tame your mind within....

In so far as the Ultimate, or the true nature of being is concerned,
there are neither buddhas or demons.
He who frees himself from fear and hope, evil and virtue,
will realize the insubstantial and groundless nature of confusion.
Samsara will then appear as the mahamudra itself….

Is there an accompanying visualization or do you just recite the mantra?
Although many individuals in this age appear to be merely indulging their worldly desires, one does not have the capacity to judge them, so it is best to train in pure vision.

i think you just visualize the mantra and maybe visualize amitabha buddha on top of your crown or maybe that you are in his pure land reciting the mantra. currently i do the top of the crown visualization but not too concentrated on that. there wasnt any instructions, so reciting the mantra is the main thing. listen to your heart and do as you see the best.

edit: oops, i was obviously mixing my thoughts when starting to write, no i dont visualize the mantra, maybe some do but i don't, correction would be that maybe you just chant the mantra instead of visualize the mantra. sry

Thanks. I now remembered that I received some teachings that also included Amitabha so I'll look into what it says there and do that.

Forgive the foolishness of my question, I'm not a Tibetan Buddhist but I would very much like to contribute to the count. One doesn't need any initiations or anything do they?

sorry i didnt notice your post earlier. you do not need initiation or anything, only thing you need is to chant the mantra. it is beneficial when done with faith and devotion.
