It's like this.
You ran 10 km marathon without drinking any water at all, and extremely desperate for a bottle of water.
You look for it everywhere because you know you have one but your pants also happen to have 10 billion pockets that it could be in and no one else on earth has any water for you mysteriously.
Finally there is a tent built on a yard which says "Free Water Bottles"
but the tent is a hoax, so you decide to meditate until until your memory of where the water bottle is in those 10 billion pockets comes to mind
Usually you die before you ever find the water bottle but every once in a while someone finds it
In this story, WATER = ENLIGHTENMENT.
Through the whole time frame of this thirsty man's story it doesn't matter, what matters is finding the right pocket.
