when to start studying and practicing Dzogchen

Post by KonchokZoepa »

Hi, I want to know from experience of people that when is a good time to introduce oneself to some dzogchen books and start applying the wisdom in to the view and experience.

i know it is a small question and you can give me a short answer but i would like this to be a conversation that would get especially the dzogchen people talking from experience and wisdom concerning the practice of dzogchen and when to is a good time to start practicing it.

i know its the highest teaching and personally i feel that i have a way to go before dzogchen but this too is a guess, i dont have but uncertainty as my guide.

also ive heard people say the dzogchen is a complete path in and of itself.

so if we could start a conversation from this it would be great.

thanks
If the thought of demons
Never rises in your mind,
You need not fear the demon hosts around you.
It is most important to tame your mind within....

In so far as the Ultimate, or the true nature of being is concerned,
there are neither buddhas or demons.
He who frees himself from fear and hope, evil and virtue,
will realize the insubstantial and groundless nature of confusion.
Samsara will then appear as the mahamudra itself….

if this is what you mean, can you find direct itroduction or pointing out introduction in / from books?

i dont have a mulaguru with whom i study regularly, allthough i just found out that there is a nyingma rinpoche living in my country, allthough in different city.

do the Nyingmapas teach dzogchen to the beginners?

and can you even study dzogchen succesfully with books or is there a requirement for the teacher to introduce it ?

You need a qualified teacher for this. (books can be helpful of course). There are teachers alive today, teaching in Europe and using technology in creative ways, who have the capacity to this. hint: google "dzogchen community"

If you're interested in learning Dzogchen (or any other stream of Dharma), there's no point in waiting. Get out there and learn! Now's the time.

Just attend webcasts by Chogyal Namkhai Norbu. That is the place to start.

By understanding everything you perceive from the perspective of the view, you are freed from the constraints of philosophical beliefs.
By understanding that any and all mental activity is meditation, you are freed from arbitrary divisions between formal sessions and postmeditation activity.

hmm , about this fourth vajrayana empowerment, how can your receive the fourth or the gantha abhisheka?

is it given privately to a student?

and if it is possible i would like to here experience and background a little bit that in what context is this empowerement or direct introduction granted

do you have to be especially advanced and also received the previous empowerements or not? can you be an ordinary semi beginner Dharma practitioner and still receive the direct introduction?

thankyouu

ive read a little bit from his website.

it is still quite unclear if it is possible for me to attend these webcasts.

i quote this from the WWT website

''An information and explanation evening is held with experienced practitioners to learn the practice so that one is able to participate in the transmission method that Chögyal Namkhai Norbu is making available for those who are interested in the Dzogchen Teachings.''

how can i be part of this explanation evening?

and also the second question is concerning this information on the WWT website.

''To attend World Wide Transmission, contact the community in your region.''

i checked the contact list and there is no one not even close to my region. i live in finland and i didnt find any contacts in the entire europe.

so how to proceed. how to make this transmission possible for my self to participate. and to learn the practice required for the transmission.

thankyou for the help already so much.

Many webcasts are open. You can attend by clicking the following link.

http://www.shangshunginstitute.net/webcast/

He always gives the complete transmission of Dzogchen in every retreat (some people may disagree, but they are wrong).

So you tomorrow morning, receive some lungs etc., and then make sure you attend the next webcast retreat which is open. In the meantime, you join Dzogchen Community so you can buy restricted books, and receive a password to listen to replays of retreats.

on the link you provided i found this

How to subscribe to restricted webcast
write to: [email protected], providing your name, surname, country, membership number, gar of reference, email.

is this the registration and what do they mean by ''gar of reference'' does it mean what dzogchen community you are part of. what if you are not part of any dzogchen communities? but would like to join this one.

KhonchokZoepa - Registration is only required for the closed webcasts.

As Malcolm has pointed out, most of Rinpoche's retreats are open which means you just need to go to the website at the time of the webcast and the stream will start automatically.

If you want direct introduction you can receive it. Rinpoche would not offer it openly if it was not suitable for a beginner to receive.

the reason why i want to register is to be able to listen to the webcast that happened in the past and also to be able to buy books that are otherwise restricted?

how do i go on with this ?

can someone link me a registration form on a site or how can i listen to past webcast and buy restricted books. :D
