"This path is a thorough investigation and understanding of the limitations of the mortal condition of the body and mind. Now you're developing the ability to turn away from the conditioned and to release your identity from mortality." Ajan Sumedho, "Mindfulness, the path to the Deathless."

The topic makes me think of this analogy: all quantum physicists are people who could read and write; but not all people who could read and write are quantum physicists. So, there're different levels of realization of emptiness, from mere intellectual knowledge to complete penetration. And only the ultimate level of realization would allow the practitioner to completely destroy all taints or defilements of the mind. And only after all taints or defilements of the mind (ie the Big Three: greed, aversion, delusion) have completely been destroyed, one would be able to attain Nibbana.
