All the world is on fire, All the world is burning, All the world is ablaze, All the world is quaking. That which does not quake or blaze, That to which worldlings do not resort, Where there is no place for Mara:That is where my mind delights. (SN 5.7)

By degrees, little by little,
from moment to moment,
the wise purify themselves,
as a smith purifies silver.

I totally respect the view that restraint is healthy and part of the dhamma. My concern is with the unfounded view that society is on the fast track to total depravity and chaos. Even that wouldn't be such a bad thing except when one blames the tool of contraception for that imaginary decline, and uses this as a justification for limiting access to a desperately needed tool for minimizing risks.

People have been fornicating for many generations but in the past there was no way to prevent unwanted pregnancy except for dangerous abortions. And the children of those encounters were treated horribly by a stuck up and rigid society that wrote them off as "bastards". The best way to minimize fornication is through education and positive opportunities, not through condemnation of condoms.

To answer a few past posts which responded to me. Sex has two purposes. The primary is procreation. The secondary is love and pleasure. We know procreation is the primary purpose because the peak of the experience is ejaculation, which has the sole aim of procreating. The pleasure is quite a separate thing. Why? Because we can get pleasure for all kinds of other sources, but in nature sex is the only place we have for procreation. The pleasure is the carrot, folks. If you wish to subvert such an natural order concerning sex, then you can explain to me why something like beastiality is wrong. Just wondering.

Anupubbikatha: teaching step-by-step, in proper sequence; he teaches the principles or subject matter in order, from easy to abstruse, shallow to profound, in logical progression. (A.III.184)

<begin sarcasm> Yes, being born female, black, handicapped, or gay is pretty much the same as raping little children. Actually, why don't we just blame the Jews for that as well? <end sarcasm>

Civil rights are a good thing. Your comment is quintessential bigotry.

Contemplans,
John and Michael both arise from the womb of Barbara. John becomes a virtuous arahant, but Michael joins a gang and kills ten people in a drug deal gone bad. By your logic I should despise John because he came from the same source as Michael. Your logic is flawed. Could you please address any gaps in my logic a few posts back (not the sarcastic post). I clearly laid out my logic for why sex is not inherently bad. Please address my logic instead of bringing up NAMBLA and the civil rights movement as red herrings. Or, if it is the case, admit that a Catholic upbringing conditioned your beliefs on sex. There would be nothing wrong with that. My best friend is a Catholic (also a bigot, but uses contraception.)
