I've placed the PDFs of the three volumes from the Internet Archive of Jones' English translation on Dharma Trove. It appears to not be in copyright any longer.
The Mahavastu, Volume I
The Mahavastu, Volume II
The Mahavastu, Volume III

Re: The Mahavastu
Had trouble getting your links to download, so found that this Wiki article, under Sources, has archive links that work better:

May all seek, find & follow the Path of Buddhas.

Yes, it is the same files as those. My website is a basic Yahoo! webhosting account - so the connectivity is a little slow at times. I get there well enough from a home computer ... Eventually, it will link up with some work I'm doing with the Abhiniskramana in Chinese - yes, yet another project. I'm a nut. Will wrote:Had trouble getting your links to download, so found that this Wiki article, under Sources, has archive links that work better:

Re: The Mahavastu
Here is the PDF of a related text that I am working with these days - Beal's abridged translation of the Abhiniskramana from Chinese.
Romantic Legend of Sakya Buddha
I have been comparing the first chapter of the Chinese against Jones' translation of the Mahavastu, and the two texts appear to have been parallel versions of the same basic genre maintained by different vinaya-pitakas. The Mahavastu is a manuscript in unfortunate disrepair, as Jones points out. Comparing it to the Chinese, one can see where perhaps material was rearranged and newer materials (such as the ten bhumis) inserted. I'm attempting to make an initial translation of the first chapter of the Abhiniskramana as I go.
