The Chod damaru there is out of stock.

Malcolm recommended these damarus some time ago:

They certainly aren't cheap, but they are astoundingly beautiful, durable for sure - and sound fantastic (a musician friend of mine tells me). You probably won't find anything more reliable anywhere in the world.

I phoned when I bought one and they offered a 10% discount. The tail and the case is
also included. I have had no problems with any of the orders I've placed with Tibetan Treasures.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ive found various places but don't know if they are made correctly according to tantra, or even if that is a concern in the DC.

I never heard special suggestions in the DC until now.
A damaru is just a damaru. A vajra and bell is just a vajra and bell.
Of course, there are always better qualities, and not so good qualities of all these instruments.
It depends on your budget.

But this is not the main point in Dzogchen. You can even do any practice without any instrument.

nevertheless, I've heard Rinpoché saying once that a good sound for the bell was important ... but of course never sooo important.

By understanding everything you perceive from the perspective of the view, you are freed from the constraints of philosophical beliefs.
By understanding that any and all mental activity is meditation, you are freed from arbitrary divisions between formal sessions and postmeditation activity.

I ordered a chod drum from here... http://shop.fpmt.org/Chod-Drum_p_729.html
price was good, drum has a decent sound to it, came with case, tail etc. Not at the level of what damaruworks makes but very functional

Looks like a great price for the West.

Check out:

http://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.ph ... =chod+drum

Note: number 5 the conch ring. This is not just decorative, and having a good one, in the right place, makes all the difference in the world.

This is what the bottom of your hand rests on, and pushes against. Your thumb and first finger can control the drum, in a good way, only if the conch ring is in the right place. This has to be adjusted for the size of your hand to get the distance from the drum right.

https://www.google.com/search?q=chod+dr ... B500%3B369

Except for the conch ring, all qualifications of the drum, as described in phantom59's post are not / not necessary to perform the chod. I agree with his comments about the wood Kangling: the bone version is also hard to explain to a customs officer, should you be traveling.

So you might inquire about the conch ring. You should also make sure that you "like" the drum they send you and if not, exchange it until you find one you like. The easiest way to learn is to sit on the Chodpa(ma)'s right, and do monkey see, monkey do. This is how I learned from ChNNR. In the old days this was possible. Playing along with the video will also work.

Happy offering.

Are you a member of the Dzogchen Community? If you are a member, you can log in at the webcast site and also at the archive site. That archive site only has the last few months of retreats, not all of them. I don't know how you would get those.
Melong.com has Rinpoche's schedule. It is usually up-to-date.

Hello Lama Tsewang.

Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche's new schedule for 2013-2014:
http://www.melong.com/retreats.html

About the past webcasts of Rinpoche, firstly it is necessary that you have received all those transmissions by him.
Then you can ask Shang Shung Institute for the relevant CDs and DVDs:

Lama Tsewang,

If you visit the website of Tsegyalgar East there is a tab along the top that says 'Membership". All the info about how to become a member of Dzogchen Community can be found there.

If you become a member you will automatically receive email notices of all upcoming webcasts.

To the best of my knowledge there is no webcast this weekend but there is a Worldwide Transmission of GuruYoga on July 17th at 8pm PDT (check for the the Time Zone Converter site for the time in your area).

Hope this is useful.
I am well aware of my idiocy. I am also very aware that you too are an idiot. Therein lies our mutuality.

All of the retreats are webcast,as far as I know... some of them may be a closed webcast for members only.
Here is a link to the webcast page.
