Bombs went off at Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya:

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city ... m=referral

Quote:
GAYA: At least two persons have reportedly been injured in multiple blasts outside the Mahabodhi temple at Bodhgaya here.

According to reports, five blasts took place outside the world famous temple at around 5am on Sunday.

Initial reports said that there has been no damage to the temple.

The injured have been rushed to the hospital with splinter injuries. Unconfirmed reports said that one unexploded bomb was found outside the temple and diffused by the security forces.

CRPF personnel and fire tenders have been rushed to the spot.

More details are awaited.

I was there just last week.

Apparently they were aware of the threat. Live updates:

http://www.firstpost.com/india/live-bod ... 34915.html

Well coordinated without anyone caught in the act. The security there is pathetic. I was there last week and noticed how all the cops sat in their jeeps or in the shade not really doing much. No patrols. No dogs. Just business as usual in India.

Glad you are ok! Just so very sad. Do we need more motivation to practice? Samsara right in all of our faces. Stay safe!

Looks like one went off right beside the tree.

Image

The wooden debris was the table / altar in front of the fence surrounding the tree.

So, this wan attack against Buddhism rather than the government...

Things will get ugly in places like Burma tonight.

I read that that particular explosion near the Bodhi Tree damaged the Buddha foot prints.

If the Buddhist theories of Dharma ending age are true, then nothing else than this could be the mark of its beginning. Really horrific. I guess, in some ways, it shows the power of Dharma decreasing in the world if even Bodhgaya isn't spared anymore.

To me it looks like the terror act was perpetrated by some Muslim terrorists trying to avenge the persecution of Rohingyas in Burma. It is even possible that it was perpetrated by some Hindu fundamentalist outfits like VHP, Bajrang Dal etc to stir some shit or take revenge from Bihar's CM's ceasing the alliance with BJP. Usually such low intensity home made explosives are the work of Hindu fundamentalists who have been caught many times in the past already while manufacturing them across India.

Let us hope Venerable Indrajala, that you are incorrect re Myanmar...

I pray that this will not be a further escalation in the recent tension...while it was still a comparatively small attack, It deeply pains me...and I truly hope this is not a marker for future attacks. Considering that MahaBodhi is the holiest and most significant Buddhist site, I can't help but feel that Buddhism is, and will continue to be targeted ...

The tree was destroyed before, like in the seventh century and possibly in Ashoka's time. Fortunately saplings are preserved elsewhere like in Sri Lanka.

But you're right this is a sign of the times when Bodhgaya is a target.

Just adding another source to the discussion:

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/asia/2013 ... 38320.html

The way this article puts it, the "holy bodhi tree is safe and there is no damage to it."

It should not go unnoticed that this attack was timed to coincide with HH Dalai Lama's birthday.

They also did it early in the morning and during the low season when few tourists are around. During the busier times security is tighter, or so I recall from 2011.

Police here in Delhi stopped by and suggested additional security measures.

It sounds like the threat extends to all Buddhist temples in India.

Do other saplings currently exist in the event that the tree is destroyed?

A report linking this to the Indian Mujahideen and actually invoking suicide attacks. There were Indian press reports last week about a possible terrorist attack at Buddhist sites. Apparently another bomb was found in a hotel at Bodhgaya.

So there must have been some incompetence on the part of the police in not being able to prevent this. I also heard they were already aware that 2 individuals connected with the Mujahadeen were in Bodh Gaya several days before the blasts.

Up to date information is appearing here:

Another example that the first refuge of Islam is violence. Religion of peace, my ass.

Yeah, really the only solution is put all Muslims in camps and track them, seriously, it's for everyone's safety. Not being prejudiced or anything, i'm just saying that all Muslims everywhere ever are quite clearly warlike and are all involved somehow in this bombing, and are involved in an active worldwide conspiracy to overthrow western civilization. Not being prejudiced or anything though.

Start around 600 CE by counting & comparing Buddhist vs Muslim violence - see which group has the pattern of violence against those outside their religion.
