ImageSawaddee Ka.. in Thai dress

This lovely Tuesday evening, I learn 2 beautiful words: 'Muni' and 'Muninda-abhipavara' and the meanings from my dear kalayanamita..Dr.Han Tun....I love the words and I love to write poems for these words:

Muni means a holy man
There are six kinds of munis:
Agaara muni.. a noble householder
Anagaara muni means a noble bhikkhu
Sekha muni....ariyan puggala in training
Asekha muni...Arahant with the noble truth
Pacceka muni...Paccekabuddha....a great-being
Muni of all munis..Buddha, the greatest of all beings!

I love
The word 'Muninda'
'Muninda' means Buddha
'abhipavara' means greatest sage
Buddha is definitely the greatest sage
'Muninda-abhipavara' sounds...so..so great!!

Oh Buddha
A thousand sky dancers
have left your left side
to the right is your other dream
When you awake
who will offer you pop corn

(you can of course substitute flowers for popcorn)

Keep up the good god work
Oh Buddha, you are 0, nothing, void, empty of form
A thousand sky dancers, skywalkers, Jedi, The Force of Kwan Yin
have left your left side, like the dream of an elephant, birthed by Tathagata
to the right is your other dream, dream of a life of Buddha poetry, dharma and enlightenment
When you awake, you write (right?) of poetic dreams . . .
who will offer you pop corn, seeds that open . . . micro wave :hi:
Onward and upward, sideways and inward.

Sawaddee Ka,

Sabhiya was a Paribbaajaka(wanderer) who came to pay homage to the Buddha...Then he asked questions about.. 'What should a man (necessarily) have obtained that people may call him a Braamana?',--'and how (may they call him) a Samana? and how a Nahaataka? how can he be called a Naaga? Asked (about this) do thou Bhagavat explain it to me.'[Translated from the Paa.li by V. Fausboll in 1881.]

And after the Buddha answered his questions/preached him (Sabhiya Sutta)...Sabhiya joined The Buddha's Order, years later he attained Arahatship.

****************

Sabhiya sutta

A Braamana
He who removes all sins,
is immaculate, well composed,
firm-minded...crossing the Samsaraa,
such an independent one is called a Braamana.

A Samana
He who is calm,
having left behind good and evil,
free from all kilesa-tanha, defilement,
having understood this and the other world.
A Samana is the one who conquered birth and death.

A Nahaataka
He who washs away,
all sins internally/externally,
does not enter time (kappa) amongst gods,
and men who are subject to time, him they call a Nahaataka (cleansed).

A Naaga
He who does not
commit any crime in the world,
who, after abandoning all bonds and fetters,
clings to nothing, being liberated.. from all sin
such a one is called a Naaga (sinless) by being so.

Sawaddee Ka,

Yesterday, I read Brother Han's post : Sabhiya, the Paribbaajaka's questions:

'What should one (necessarily) have obtained that people may call him Vedaguu?'--so said Sabhiya,--'and how (may they call him) Anuvidita? and how Viriyavat? How does one become Aajaaniya? Asked (about this) do thou, O Bhagavat(the Buddha), explain it to me.'

I love these 4 Pali words..so I wrote poems:

************

The Buddha's Answers:

A Vedaguu
is an ariya person,
who conquer all sensations,
free from passion for all sensations,
he is Vedaguu after conquering all feelings.

An Anuvidita
He who, having seen
the delusion of name and form
internally and externally, the root of sickness,
and he's delivered from the radical bond of all sickness.
Such a one is called Anuvidita (well-informed) by being so.

A Viriyavat
He who is disgusted
in this world with all sins,
is strong after conquering the pain of hell,
such a one is called Viriyavat or Dhiira (firm).

An Aajaaniya
He whose bonds are cut off
internally and externally, the root of ties,
who is delivered from the radical bond of all ties,
such a one is called Aajaaniya (high-bred)...so refined!

Sawaddee Ka

Last night I did sit-meditation/counting my '110 mala-beads' Buddho 1-2-3.....Buddho110, 5 times=24 mins..and my concentration was quite good..Tep always says that I have short attention/concentration..my bad..my bad.

Today I have a short poem and a dhamma song that I love the most to share with you all.

Dhammajak Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuD2PMhni_I

***********
Blemish

Truly knowing a blemish
As sensual-desire hindrance
You must know when it is present
You have to know when it is absent
Know the arising-cause of.... a blemish
Know the abandonment of an arisen blemish
know the non-arising in the future of the blemish.

When a man with an internal blemish
Does not know that he has... defilement
Then he'll not find the way to abandon 'blemish'
He'll die with passion,aversion,delusion..defilement!

Sawaddee Ka :namaste:

This Monday..it's raining since morning..and never stop...not hard rain, just very gentle rain!

 A Love so Beautiful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3e6n0iSfEA

 Danger in loving too much: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjkU0p-hUGI

*************

A putujjana when touched by painful feeling
He worries and grieves and weeps
He experienes sad bodily and mental feelings
The thorn of sadness pierces him so deep

A putujjana when touched by sensual happiness
He enjoys and wishs it never ends
He experiences happy bodily and mental feeling
The thorn of happiness pierces him now and then

A putujjana doesn't know the arising and the ending
Never knows the danger and escape of sad or happy feeling
He is fettered by birth, by old age, by death
He is fettered by sorrow, by despair, by suffering

I read so many suttas, dhamma stories, Buddha's sayings
I know the danger of sensual pleasures feeling
I know the happy-love-thorn pierces me so deep
It might not leave me..even I die trying

The yard gate.
The yard gate closed for the very last time
No more work here fellas, it's knock off time
Hold your head up boys, don't let 'em know you're hurt
You won't be paid extra, ' cause you look like a draught horse in the rain
Down to the welfare, got a wife & kids to feed
How ya goin col? Good mate, yeah me too
I wonder which one of us is the best liar.

But that's life, there are darkness and dawn
Someday, bright light comes and darkness'll be gone

Sawaddee Ka .....on Uposatha Day :anjali:

I read the article: "There is more to do" @SD, I really like it...too hard for me to follow..but I would like to share with you all.

Image

Based on Maha Saropama Sutta[MN 29]

When he is diligent
He achieves the attainment of virtue
He is pleased with that attainment of virtue
But his intention is not fulfilled

When he is diligent
He achieves the attainment of concentration
He is pleased with that attainment of concentration
But his intention is not fulfilled

When he is diligent
He achieves knowledge and vision
He is pleased with that knowledge and vision
But his intention is not fulfilled

Being diligent
He attains perpetual liberation
And it is impossible for that bhikkhu
To fall away from that perpetual deliverance

Dear friends
The Buddha said that
Other meritorious achievements
Still can fall away, except the perpetual liberation

Sawaddee Ka :namaste:

yellow roses of Texas
Image

This Texas Friday morning is so lovely/peaceful...the right time for poem

Our words and deeds come from thought
If we speak or act with evil thought
Suffering will be with us like shadows
Where ever we go... suffering follows

Our deeds and words spring from thought
If we act or speak with good heart
Happiness will be with us forever
Happiness follows good-doers

When people treat you real bad
Try to control your anger
If you let hatred or anger control you
You will be the one who suffer

the dharma giants carry you higher
support their weight
ants will listen to your wordy silence
right here
Aspiration is your answer
and prayer incessant
Write Now
words unspoken, dharma lost and found
Teachers gone fishing, sangha unrobed
Ahead no head
Behind Nothing

Onward, Upward, Sideways and Inward

Another spontaneous composition:

Here is a Being

Here is a being
That does not know itself
Falsely calling thoughts "self"
It wrongly identifies
With what amounts to an empty appearance

Here is a being
That knows itself
Correctly labeling thoughts "empty-appearances"
It correctly identifies itself
With the suchness of reality

Here is a being
That sows the seeds of suffering
Now happy, now sad
It makes an orchard of fruit bearing trees
Both rotten and sweet to eat

Here is a being
That has transcended suffering
Always in equanimity and calm
It partakes of the single fruit
The one taste of absolute reality

Here is a being
The builder of a mighty house
Decorating the interior with objects
It believes in its own creations
As something concrete, always existent

Here is a being
The destroyer of a mighty house
Breaking even the foundation to pieces
It understands its own perceptions
To be nothing but an empty imagination

Here is a being
Entrapped by ego
Living in a gold gilt cage
It thinks it has found paradise
But it has only made for itself a pretty hell

Here is no-one
Knowing the self to be empty
Living in the ever present now, completely free
Beyond past, present and future
It has found heaven, but lets even that concept go

Gone, gone, gone beyond is this one
Who has realized the empty nature
Completely gone, without remainder
Yet staying to benefit beings
Until the end of the universe

Sawaddee Ka :namaste:

This lovely Thursday is Uposatha Day, and I have Buddha's poem to share with you all. My Buddha's poems are based on Buddha's Verses/Dhammapada stories translated from the Pali by.. Daw Mya Tin, M.A..who I admire very much.

Image

When people abuse you..with words or actions
Try to forget and forgive them
Rise above all bad things..overcome your anger
Put kindness in your heart..live in peace forever

You can't win hatred with hatred
You win hatred with loving-kindness
Love conquers bad things..bad people
This is the truth of the nobles

Wise men say only fools quarrel and fight
Like they will live forever
If they realize that we all will die someday
Fools will stop fighting or hurting each other

One who
Overjoy sensual pleasures
With all the senses unguarded
Immoderate in food..lacking energy
Being lazy, no perseverance nor will-power
Will be controlled by Mara, chained to Samsara forever
