One of the greatest exercises in mindfulness I've done was buying a car and beginning a regular practice of driving. (Didn't get a license untl late in life, so driving was not a reflex I developed in my youth.) I've found urban nighttime driving in particular a very good way for taming the chattering mind.

How about you?

I intentionally put myself in situations that are harmless but still make me uncomfortable. Examples:

*crowds. don't like crowds.

*gender-inappropriate retail stores (I'm a somewhat scruffy dude, so imagine me taking my time playing at shopping for high-end women's perfume)

*contexts in which I'm the only white guy, or the only Buddhist, or the only one who doesn't speak the local language, &c

*anything that feels formal or stuffy

What's interesting is that after a while I get comfortable in these situations and have to find other buttons in myself to push. My next idea is to go to a gun show or a "Tea Party" event.

Ah, a very good question!

Since i climb towers althogh i have a little bit vertigo (shaking knees, feeling to fall, cold sweat) i even have no fear of spiders anymore. :tongue:
But i have to keep on practicing this from time to time...

Informal conversation can actually be a mindfulness practice, in my experience. Really listening to others is a great way to work on self-grasping.
