Phil Druker was the author of a very interesting book on his adventures hiking in Dolpo, a very remote region as many of you know. When he was working on this book, I had the privilege of chatting with him over coffee and in the hallway at work (this was at the University of Idaho several years back). I tried to impress upon him then just how precious it was to visit many of the places he'd been, showing him C. Stearns' book on Dolpopa to make the point. He just smiled. He was like that: a very gentle soul but also very driven. He was great to work with, by the way: he gave meaningful feedback clearly, could be relied on for good advice, and always made time for people who wanted to learn.

And he's passed away now. His obituary (linked below) tells the story.

I pray he continues his journey into sacred spaces, persists in the path of nonviolence, and meets with the precious Dharma again next time around.
