Porcelain statuary

Post by Nilasarasvati »

I'm not sure where else to ask about this. I realize most Zen is somewhat aniconic.

But I'm wondering where to find statuary of Samantabhadra, Manjusri, Ksitigarbha in the east asian styles that are made of Porcelain...they seem to be super overpriced and really rare on Ebay and also difficult to find in matching/alike sets. Don't many Chinese homes have these (esp. pairings of Kuan yin with others or Manjusri+samantabhadra) I'm curious. I wonder if I just have to go to a Bazaar in Shanghai or something?

I've seen them before in China Town (London) sold in souvenir shops. May I ask, why so specific on them being porcelain?

Only because it seems like it would be the most common, readily available media. Wood would be nice, but I've never seen any nice wooden images. If I still had the capability in ceramics, I might even try to make my own :?
