Here's one I purchased and have been carrying around with me this year. http://www.amazon.com/Essentials-Buddhi ... 1935413007

It's outstanding, and while this book serves in part as an illustration of the beauty and gravitas of Tien Tai and Tendai tradition, it's also a very enjoyable read, and has instructions and commentary on shi-kan practice from Ven. Chih-i that resonate very nicely today. Folks interested in meditation practice from almost any tradition would enjoy and benefit from this book. I carry it around as it is a manual that "speaks" to me and keeps me on track, day to day. I haven' found many travel companions like this one. I understand the great Chih-i wrote this to help his brother who was struggling with some life issues, so my sense is that he wrote this with some real compassion and a sense of upaya in his heart.

I also carry this one around: http://www.amazon.com/Walk-Like-Mountai ... 1896559174 It's a very nicely written and practical 21st century view of the ancient practice of walking meditation. Rev. Innen wrote in this book that he wanted to write a "magnum opus" about Tendai practice, but for now has written a very solid view of walking as meditation, from simply doing small exercises at home off the cushion, to the magnificence of Tendai Kaihogyo, and everything in between. Again, a very relevant book for anyone in practice from any tradition looking for a well written and illustrated guide to walking meditation.
