This thread's been quite informative, thought-provoking and engaging for this lurker, but could it be ...

Reasons to stay in a Vajrayana tradition
1.Direct Experience
2.Direct Experience
3.The fact that direct experience is rarely available in most spiritual traditions during these degenerate times.
4.A comprehensive system of psychological healing built within the practice, with readily available results.
5.Direct Experience
6.The blessing of being able to know these teachings and have the capacity to practice them.
7.The gift of being able to have a relationship with an authentic teacher
8.The most direct way of alleviating suffering and benefiting all sentient beings

I have been doing recitations that I don't particularly feel connected to for several years now. I continue to do it because I made a promise and keeping my promises is what holds my practice together when life is relatively good. It might seem insignificant but it is actually very important for me to keep this going.

Our habitual gross-level awareness doesn't generally feel a connection or notice the effects our practice might have on the subtle energetic system. That is, until we dive into a retreat context with the right motivation, and a good guide to help us set a schedule as well as hold the blessings for us. Once we've spent a decent swatch of time in intensive solitary practice, the connection is quite vivid. At least, that's what I believe to be the case, let me know if that hypothesis holds true for you if you've already tested it, or once you've tested it.
