At the foot of Mt. Emei in SW China's Sichuan province, stands a unique college - Emei Buddhist College.
The college is built in Dafo Temple. Unlike other temples filled with worshippers, the Buddhist College is tranquil and solemn.

I rejoice that China has monastic training programs!
I hope oneday we have similar programs for foreigners and monastics colleges in other countries. That there is enough of a Buddhist culture and active interest elsewhere to create such opportunities.

Is it very common for monastics in China to train in music, calligraphy and arts as supplementary to other studies and practices?

This college seems to also have a goal of classic culture preservation? As though the monastery is also a repository for traditional arts and culture. One of the subtitles mentions management skills...I am assuming to prepare them to fill bureaucratic positions in or be in charge of temples and monasteries elsewhere?
