Pure land Monastery Florida?

Post by MattyNottwo »

Does anyone know of a Pureland Monastery or Center in Florida? We have a Vietnamese Monastery, but I think they are mostly practicing Zen.

Florida's a big state, what part?
Are you close to South Miami?
Vietnamese Pure Land Temple
Pure Land School
South Miami, Florida
(305) 662-8052

If that's not the one near you, you may still want to check out the Vietnamese Monastery near you anyway.
The Temple I go to is Vietnamese & has a big Bodhidharma statue in the shrine room - they teach T'ienT'ai, Pure Land, and Zen (Thien).
Vietnamese, Chinese, and Korean traditions can be very syncretic within the greater classification of east asian Mahayana - with no strict dividing lines.
So I'd recommend checking out any of those 3 around you and there do appear to be a lot.

If you're looking for Japanese Pure Land, you may want to try:
http://www.amidabuddha.org/
or:
Brevard County Buddhist Fellowship (seems to have multiple entries, also Buddha Gaia: Brevard County Chapter)
Address: meets: Unity Church, 1745 Trimble Rd Melbourne Titusville FL 32796
Tradition: Mahayana, Shin Buddhism
Affiliation: North American Shin Buddhist Association
Phone(s): (386) 383 - 2457, (321) 720 - 0738 Shanti Johnson - (321) 747 - 0684
E-mail: [email protected]

There's also the buddhanet directory:
http://www.buddhanet.info/wbd/province. ... ince_id=30

Hard to give you better advice without knowing more specifics.
Hope that's enough to get you started. :)
