Is Chogyam trungpa's alcoholism over romanticized?

Postby duffster » Thu Mar 28, 2013 6:32 pm

Hi,
I have heard different opinions on Chogyam Trungpa's drinking. Some people say he was an alcoholic, others say he used it for various purposes for teaching, some say it cant be judged because it is crazy wisdom, his own wife says she feels it help fuel him and facilitate his teaching.im asking this question because i dont feel drinking so heavy could have an overall positive effect, but at the same time many people respect him and follow his teachings, seems like a contradiction or a paradox or is it over romanticized?maybe some people that know him and his teaching better could offer their opinions..

Thanks

Hi duffster,

This is a topic we've discussed fairly extensively here at DW. Here's one fairly recent thread:

I'm going to lock this one, as Trungpa's various activities are still very controversial. Thanks for your understanding.
