From my thread 'what body or kaya is this?', it seems that Theravada may not need Trikaya concept. However, from the Sutta quoted in the thread, we have to acknowledge Theravada has different kind of kaya or body. It is label in different term.
Theravada may not need to understand Trikaya because if we see their method of training particularly in the breathing meditation, they dont mention sambogakaya etc. The path or technique doesn't required us to understand what is trikaya.
However, in Mahayana particularly Vajrayana, the understanding of trikaya is extremely crucial. Without understanding it, the technique which the practitioner use according to Mahayana Or Vajrayana technique cannot be carried out properly.
Trikaya itself are just label. Nothing more than that. It is just a label to explain some aspect, where if 1 school want to explain it then they can create a label for it. If others do not need to explain that aspect, they can skip it.
In terms of ultimate truth, whatever kayas those schools have, they are simply intellectual name. Nothing can exist (inherently) in ultimate truth.

I am not here nor there.
I am not right nor wrong.
I do not exist neither non-exist.
I am not I nor non-I.
I am not in samsara nor nirvana.
To All Buddhas, I bow down for the teaching of emptiness. Thank You!
