Is there some way we could get the man to respond himself? If anyone reading this is his student, please ask him.

His student David Chapman runs the site http://approachingaro.org, a site the defends this lama from his critics. You can read their perspective there, and ask them anything you want. I did that years ago, asking clarifying questions to David and also discussing him with the close disciples of the lamas he was a past disciple of, and people who have had a close relationship in the past. I'm not bringing up anything about contested facts here... other than whether or not he would say behind closed doors that he is a terton. I'm just going on hearsay here... although thinking back on it it might have been David who told me that, I can't quite remember.

I have never heard the slightest thing about Ngakpa Chogyam having any negative conduct towards his students. He does promote good conduct and his students show those qualities as well. Many of them have been loyal to him for 15 or more years, and that says a lot.

Hi everyone

I found interesting statement on Aro gTer webpage. Here you can find the link

Code: Select all

http://aroencyclopaedia.org/shared/text/l/ldc_ph_01_eng.php

"Lama Dawa Chhodak Rinpoche is a friend of Ngak’chang Rinpoche and a co-disciple of Kyabjé Künzang Dorje Rinpoche."

"Through his[lama Dawa's] divinations several incarnations in the Aro gTér line have been discovered and various important connections have been made."

Everybody can make their own decision.

If you entertain the idea this might be true
you should actually ask Lama Dawa Chhodak R
directly and see how he responds.

Lama Dawa is currently on a prolonged retreat Adamantine.
But after I read David Chapman's blog I did contact him..and he basically confirmed what Chapman claimed.

I suspect that before long the current view of the AroGter will need to be revisited.

Maybe I'm not following closely enough, but what did Chapman claim?

OK, so basically Lama Dawa Chhodak Rinpoche gave him the thumbs up?

He gave the AroGter the thumbs up. As apparently did Kunzang Dorje Rinpoche.

But which Ngakpa Yeshe Dorje did not, and CR Lama did not. So where does that leave us?

Actually Norwegian my wife has just reminded me that she attended teachings with CR Lama and the Aro Gter teachers were there and given a place of honour...

Just to be clear, she is a student of Lama Jampa Thaye, so she has no axe to grind.

If he's not already out of retreat and back in Iowa he
will be shortly, he's about to lead a drupchen and lots of activities
there. I don't know what he said to you but I've
had my own conversations. I think it would be wise
to understand that things may not be so clear cut.
Whereas he may have done some divinations for
members and they may have indeed been Tibetan is
prior lives (many of us have I'm sure) and practitioners,
the fact that he gave readings and whatever his readings were
-they may not validate the Aro lineage
or gTerma claims in any way.

Also, Tibetans often have a public face about controversial things
that is not the same as when you know them and have a private
conversation . You could say its a cultural thing.

So before anyone takes the claim on the Aro site at face value- if you
have a relationship with Lama Dawa Chhodak Rinpoche
and even Samaya with him I would confer with him
privately before you decide it's a good idea to join an Aro gTer empowerment
or teaching or whatever.

I can't say I know what he'll say- he may say something
different to two different people. And because of this
I wouldn't quote whatever he says on here or in public as it may be
pith instruction.

Certainly great caution is needed.
I am just saying that the issues may be less clear cut than I for one, once assumed.

There's some discussion of Chogyam's relationship with Yeshe Dorje here:
