"Cooties" is a wonderful Americanism. A "Coot" in Australia is a water-hen and is old vernacular for a cantenkerous person "Old coot".

What I would really like to know is what is the appropriate Americanism for the green gelatinous substance that is generated in the nostril and gives some people extraordinary pleasure in its digital mining.
Thanks

Ben

Also, cooties is also a catch-all term for lice, fleas and other personal livestock that can crawl upon one's hide.

But mostly now it is a silly word word that is used by grade schoolers.
